Re: Help asap front cv axle!!!!

yeah i took a big pry bar (36in) and went to town. it came out after 4 heavy pry's. Looks to me you're on the ground with jack stands. Does your slide hammer have a crank puller adapter?? That would work.

Re: Help asap front cv axle!!!!

yea on jacks so have limited clearance... ive used the cv axle removal tool with slide hammer and a 2 jaw puller with slide hammer as well... i have a pry bar but can only get it to catch at one point as seen in the pic to the right that little lip with a little bit of yellow on it...

tools ive used:

Did you put a bungie cord over that to keep it pulled into the axle housing? I did not get the aforementioned one out using everything I could get my hands on at the dealer, AND having the diff on the work bench until I added the bungie cord and it came out the next try. Salt belt or cut this circlip is in the axle housing protected from the salt and regularly bathed in gear oil... I dont live in the salt belt and have fought low milage rust free WK axles.

And no you should not drive to the dealer unless you want to burn the clutches in you transfer case up. Can you reassemble the axle? boot or not, you just bed to complete the path to ground at that wheel.

Re: Help asap front cv axle!!!!

Hello....I have a 2005 and the drivers side WILL NOT BUDGE...we now have the diff out and have made a custom tool similar to a ball joint separator fork to place between the cv and the housing....it is made from 3/8s steel....with a head for hitting with a 4lb hammer to pop it out....NO LUCK...still won't budge...tried rotating etc...nothing!! I'm almost ready for the dynamite solution....we custom built a 6lb slide hammer with a cradle for the cv unit...full force multiple times on a 4 ft shaft...didn't budge....
Any ideas...The clip inside is obviously the problem...but how much more force can we give it and with what?

So I recently had this problem. I removed front axle. Pulled right side stub shaft out. Removed right axle tube to prevent damage. Inner cup on left side was stuck.... so stuck I actually cut it at the diff just before the cup, removed side bearings cups and snap ring shims. Make reference as to what side they came out to install them the same. Otherwise backlash will be affected. Remove diff from carrier as now the cv cup is gone. Must remove both side bearings cups to achieve this. Once removed remove crown from diff. Left hand thread bolts, torqued to 75lbs when reinstalled. Remove roll pin from pinion gears. Remove diff pin. Now push left side shaft in and remove snap ring at the end of the cv shaft. Now cv shaft will come out. I replaced pinion and side gears as that's what I was doing in their anyways. New axle seal new cv shaft. Ring gear installed the same way it came off. New roll pin. Torque spec. Crown.75ft-lbs reverse thread. Snap rings I used needle nose pliers with help from a channel lock pliers on the needlnose part of the pliers.install side shim/Snap Rings check backlash if you want. Install front cover 41 ft-lbs axle tube 41 ft-lbs.
