Re: HELP huge paint scratch

Ech! I hate to see that Father Paul. My neighbor's kid dragged his bare bicycle handlebars along the entire drivers side... missed the rear wheel well panel ( which was door dinged soon after that) & front bumper. All the way into the primer. I had a body shop fix it when I re-did the front fascia while the paint guns were still loaded. Good luck with that.

Re: HELP huge paint scratch

Ya I don't understand why you took $140? Is this guy off the hook now because of that? It will cost more than that even if it can be buffed out (unless Mario is cutting you a deal!) to
Me it looks like it needs a respray. Did the hit your wheels too?

Good luck man, word of advise, don't take money without estimates. Body work is expensive. I shot down $5000 cash from this girls father that rear ended my old Durango, my friends said I was stupid for not taking it, the repair cost $5600.

I hope so. And thanks everyone for the responses/advice.

In regards to the money - this was my first time getting into a situation like this. I didn't know how to handle it. Rookie mistakes for me *shrug. And I'm guessing it was the kids first also as he was trembling the whole time. Now I know better.

And moneen, he didn't hit my wheels. Thank God. Nighthawk, the moldings are untouched.

I'll keep you guys updated though --

None yet. I once polished out scratch on the front fender of a customers' Vette and he flipped out on my manager because he needed the evidence for his insurance. I would leave it be until you have the documentation taken care of.

Don't do anything until insurance has been involved... if oh can get it out yurself then pocket the money. I dont know if only getting his lisence number will do the trick though...good luck

if you do plan on going through insurance, i wouldn't wait too long to do it. I believe you have 7 days to file, but the sooner the better.

Re: HELP huge paint scratch

Sorry man, dealt with something similar myself year or so back. To get her looking new-ish again you'll need a professional to prep and repaint both doors I cant just see how serious that is and 9/10 anything like that will go deep into the paint/primer Anyway, insurance should cover you either way as if they cannot find this guy and he doesn't admit to it, then you'll be covered under comprehensive as long as you have it, not sure if thats required up in ny or what mins are? Anyway GL, a nice buff WILL make it look better but still will be very visible to the eye from a few feet

Paul and I got together to see if we can fix it up a bit. Turned out pretty well imo. We washed it(Citrus wash),Claybar,Wash again, UC on a DA, rubbing compound, UP/Wax on a DA and lots of buffering!
