HELP me get the compound crap off my Jeep [pics]

Im so dumb. I decided to buy an orbital buffer today with intentions of making my Jeep "pop". Well, I wasn't paying attention to the wax I was buying and bought Meguiars Ultimate Compound which is for "abused and neglected finishes". I lathered the entire Jeep with the buffer. Feeling great, I went to buff it all off for a luxurious shine. Then, CRAPOLA, the junk wont come off. It cakes onto the buffing pad and smears around like toothpaste on glass. I can hand buff it off, but Id need over 100 rags and close to 12 hours AND the muscle of 25 men as its really stuck.

What can I do to get this crap off? Wash it, wax it...some have suggested mineral spirits or Mothers polish.

The crap I put on:

The results:

i also read that DAWN detergent will strip off previous coats of wax n such but it could damage the paint in the long run?

x2... i would wash it with Dawn to start. That might cut down on the amount of compound that is on there...

Re: HELP me get the compound crap off my Jeep [pics]

Grab a rag and start wiping.

I work in small areas at a time. Such as one quarter of the hood then move on.
The purpose of an orbital buffer is not to put wax on a vehicle then come back and remove it, but to remove heavy swirling and imperfections. Sounds like you need a Porter Cable D/A polisher with a pad to apply wax then a bonnet to remove the wax to accomplish what you was trying to do.

You may want to tape the black trim up next time too before you start.

I bet you have some hellatious swirling going on.

Oh man... I feel for you. What aobut a clay bar? Or what aobut Mothers 3 stage wax, polish system. they have a cleaner type wax as stage one. But certainly, you should contact the author of the detailing thread. He seems to be the knowledge man for sure.

Re: HELP me get the compound crap off my Jeep [pics]

I just bought and used that same "crap" but I used it by hand and as part of a series of steps, and didn't use half the bottle.. it looks like you didn't follow the directions. What you bought was not wax..

It took me most of the day Sunday and early Monday morning to do this: I first clayed my Jeep, used that "crap" then applied a glaze (meg. #7) then added a sealant (klasse) then waited overnight for it to cure then the next morning added meg. #26 which is the only thing I used that was wax...

I was really happy with the ultimate compound.. it worked perfectly... after claying the vehicle it helped to fill in many (not all) imperfections before I sealed the paint and added wax.

I'm sorry that this happened but be patient and it all should come off.. I would first get it off of you black plastic trim. It can stain it.

Re: HELP me get the compound crap off my Jeep [pics]

Okay, Im out there right now doing this before too much time passes.

QUESTION: The bulk is coming off, but there are going to be swirls and circles everywhere. Its almost like oily. What are my next steps after rubbing this crap off? Wax, polish, car wash???
