HELP: ODBII port isn't working

So ever wonder what would happen if you plug your iphone into your odb2 port using the cable from the diablosport trinity?

Well im pretty sure it blows a crap load of fuses because:
As soon as i did it
1. my check engine light came on
2. My ESP light came on
3. My radio shut off
4. Turn signals didnt work

So i got home, turned the car off, unhooked the battery, pumped the brake a few times, waited, turned the car back on, and had the same results

My dome lights arent turning on either

So i went to plug the trinity in, and the port doesnt work

Pretty sure i blew the fuse thats connected to, anyone know what number it is so i can get a new one?

Im an idiot

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

another thing you can do that will burn off any spair electrons in capacitors is touch the battery cables together (obviously while not attached to the battery).

Your on the right track as far as working through the problem, check all your fuses and go from there, always the first step in any weird electrical problem!

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

im NOT trying to be an a**hat or anything but, i have to ask; what were you trying to accomplish by pluggin an iPhone into a diagnostic port??
did you get any buzzing, or zapping electrical noises?
check for burnt wires behind the connector, i think they are thinner gauge at the connector, check and see if they burnt together and are maybe shorting together, causing your problem...

if all else fails you have 3 phone calls to make: Apple, Diablo, and Chrysler

on a side note: check fuses, and try and see if it will let you manually check the codes by doing the key trick.

side note (the other side): does the iPhone still work??

Good Luck

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

They have apps in which you can run diagnostics with an obd2 cable and your iphone

I downloaded said app to see if it would work

Apparently you need a special cable, i cant just use the one from the diablo...

Dumb i know, considering i already have the trinty, but whatever.

Anyways, im stuck working until 6, so hopefully i can patch it out before then. I hope my headlights and brake lights still work driving to the auto part store.

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

What an idiot!!!!

jk I also have a trinity and did the same thing although i had no problems with it. I just had to see what would happen I was at RDP Motorsports last week and they had a flyer from Diablosport that showed what looked to be an iphone. I didn't ask about it, but i would have to think an iPhone has more processing power than my trinity. Sure would be cool if they could just load the software onto an iphone and go from there. Although they wouldnt make near as much $$$

Replaced fuses... no good

Its at the dealership today... Not looking good

Might end up trading it in if I need a new harness

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

I dont see how you could have fried any harness there is not enough amperage to the diagnostic port... you possibly may have made a module stupid. example: I performed a pcm update on a durango last week and replaced the battery, owner got home and called back and said that his key fobs didnt work. I never used them when I got into the car so it was not anything I knew about. it took erasing the keys and reprogramming them to get them to function, battery disconnect, unplugging the module, just programminng the keys did not work. sometimes they just go stupid and you need the scantool to tell everything what it is.

here is hoping!

Re: HELP: ODBII port isn't working

yeah this has turned into costly mistake... I blame 555ctsv... Had i not remembered you said that the iphone and the trinity had the same plug i would have never gotten bored at that stoplight, and wondered what would happen

Anyways, 300 bucks for a few hours of labor and a new fuse box and a couple of modules. I guess i created a short and fried a wire.

Now, i think they reflased everything, and my trinity is going to be locked... Probably have to call diablosport and talk to someone about unlocking it
