Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

About how long did it take? I just bought mine today and want to do it tomorrow. It looks like I just have to take out the ignition cylinder and housing and replace the switch and then put it back together but all these threads say that the dealer quoted them 180 dollars? Thats like two hours of labor.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

It honestly took about 15-20 minutes. you don't have to do all the steps listed in the fsm. You pull the trim piece around the key cylinder, remove instrument cluster bezel, remove front two torx screws, one torx scre on the top of the cylinder, pull down the kick panel and finagle the ignition cylinder housing, skreem unit, and switch down, remove switch wiring harness, remove torch screw holding switch, use two screw drivers to press tabs in on switch and remove switch. Installation is reversal of removal with exception of yoh will need to insert the key and turn it to onto line up the ignition switch.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Thanks for the pics. I thought it was going to be more like that. I thought I read somewhere that you just popped the ignition cylinder out popped the switch back on but that didnt make sense to me at all.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Thanks! This worked perfectly for my 2006 Jeep Commander dashboard lights problem. I don't know if it actually fixed my problem yet, but replacing the ignition switch was the first step. It took me about 15 minutes to replace. I will report back.
