Help replacing Ignition Switch

Not the key switch - the ignition switch, just to clarify.

My 2007 WK has been attacked by Gremlins and shuts off the ignition briefly and randomly when it feels the time is appropriate. At 70 MPH it can be rather rattling when the truck shuts off for a second and then does what I've never seen in an automatic, bump starts itself back to life which makes if feel as though you've spiked the brakes for a second randomly going down the highway...

The dealer did a couple reflashes then replaced the computer, finally telling me it needed a new ignition switch. Looking at the job estimate of $39 in parts and $180 in labor, I thought it didn't sound too bad so I ordered the part PN 56010566AC. I have the 07 Jeep manual CD, but my lack of navigation skills on this manual have me struggling to locate where this part is let alone how to replace it. Pics below.

Any help getting me in the right direction would help, I don't want to go back to the dealer and hand them back the part with my tail between my legs...

Thanks
Greg

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Just to clarify... I found the old, just wondering how to go about replacing it with the new. It appears this is the part the key cylinder goes into, I found by removing the plastic trim ring round the key to see a part that appears to be a part of the assembly I have in my hands.

Robpp - you've helped me find the right chapter of this manual before, but can you tell me where exactly I can navigate to what you showed in this post to help point me in the right direction?

Key hole cover thing

Thanks
Greg

Try first... then ask for help - sorry

I'm an idiot apparently - after tearing half the dash out of my GMC truck yesterday to replace the XM unit with Sirius only to find it was a simple "push here and drop the glove box door" to access the swap, I didn't want to go down the "try and guess" route today but I should have at least tried a little before asking for help.

Two torx screws that were showing exposed under that key trim cover and the entire assembly came out with some wiggling from the back of the panel. Should be a quick swap and a test ride to see if it was worth the $39, but no way would it be worth the $180 in labor they wanted.

I'll keep everyone posted if the repair actually works... would be nice as this thing has been plaguing us for 6+ months now due to my busy schedule not making time to repair it and my stubbornness to admit my lack of free time justifying the payment of

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Looking at that pic, that is the ignition switch housing and not the switch.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

How did the install go? You take anymore pics of the process? I'm looking to do this this weekend if I can get the part in time. My jeep just started doing this and I have noticed that it only happens on cold mornings. My fix right now is to jiggle the key and let it find the right spot I guess.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

You may want to order the actual ignition switch then. The item in this pic is the ignition housing. The switch mounts to the back of this piece. Part number 4685719AH.

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Thanks. So I can replace the switch without replacing the ignition or housing then?

Re: Help replacing Ignition Switch

Yup. It mounts on the back of the pic above and the ignition cylinder goes inside the piece above.

Have you replaced your switch before?
