Re: Help to get me in the 9's

Hearing what your 1/8 mile times were, I decided to check back and see what mine have been with various mods. The track I race at is about 3000 ft. elevation, and the Density Altitude (DA) normally runs from ~4500-6000 elevation. You can see my signature for the current mods. to my 5.7 WK. I am in the process of slowly changing the cam (lack of time) right now and it is suppose to add ~50 hp and 35 torque. Here's the ranges of what my time slips indicated with the various mods:

Home made CAI using LX SRT-8 airbox, 3 in. Magnaflow exhaust, Diablosport 91 tune (modified), and 91 octane ethanol laced fuel: 9.83 and 72.39 mph to 10.032 and 71.27 mph.

Same mods as above, except add custom built tubular headers, same tune and non-ethanol laced 91 octane fuel: 9.667 and 78.96 mph to 9.92 and 73.48 mph.

I think, in summary, it's not cheap to cut time off your ET's and add speed. Of all my mods. the headers, by far, made the biggest difference in performance and fuel economy. On yours, I would think a good CAI, LX 5.7 exhaust manifolds (if you're strapped for cash), a good 3 in. cat. back (straight through) exhaust, and a Diablosport Tuner with a data logged custom tune by them, would help you the most and cost you the least. See the difference between the stock WK exhaust manifolds and the stock LX manifolds here: http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=19490

Re: Help to get me in the 9's

Viking, you're right, but there are several problems with them on a 5.7. I looked into this before I had mine built. Biggest issue, IMO, is that there is no EGR Valve Tap in the right manifold. Next problem is the right SRT manifold hits on a part of the 545RFE transmission case in such a way that the case tab that it hits must be cut away. It does not affect the integrity of the case though. Also, head pipe mods. would have to be made.

Now, on the good side, the LX guys are grinding a "notch" in the right side SRT header flange between the front port and the EGR port. Apparently this works well enough to allow enough exhaust gas to be pulled through and into the intake. The transmission case mod. is apparently quite easy also when done with the exhaust header off the vehicle. Head pipe mod. is still required, but would be required for almost any setup you'd want to install. Bottom line, IMO, is if you can get an SRT set cheap enough, it's probably a good and reasonable way to go. When I was looking, I couldn't find any WK SRT exhaust headers. Also, I don't know if the LX SRT headers would work on the WK, but that might also be something to look in to. There should be plenty of them around.

Check my post above I did it...

When I did the conversion I found a pair for 200 shipped. Just have to be patient. Also the LX SRT headers WILL NOT WORK ask 555ctsv about that one

Viking, I see you did the SRT mod. Looks/sounds good. Props to you for giving it a try. 555CTSV was my motivator too. If I hadn't seen his pictures of the difference between the stock setup and the SRT's, I probably would still have the stock crap on there. Really comes alive through mid and top end, doesn't it?

Ha Ha!! Looks like our posts are crossing in cyberspace. I just checked your thread. Cool!! As I said, glad you took the leap. I am sure you don't regret it. Have you noticed any difference in economy? Do you go to the drags? If so, how much difference did it make?

Most definitely, my best mod to date! I'm waiting on my trinity to arrive and then I'm going to get a CMR tune to really make use of the headers. Also even though I made the cut for the EGR I'm just going to block it off since I am paying for a CMR I might as well have them add it into the tune.

MPG's went up also and it seems MDS kicks in more.

I will be going to the drags after I move back to VA
