Angry HELP....wtf?

On my way back from Vegas yesterday some gremlin attacked my stereo!

So I was geting gas and left the key in the ignition for the seat-warmers for my girl (30 degrees in the fawking desert ). Get in the car, turn it on, little delay and then BAM...no output from speakers in WK (BA amp and stockers, never touched) and the sub starts spitting out bass and trebble...when I turn it down the bass/treb gets louder. Turned the remote-control down for the sub and volume on HU, and kept getting louder

Bumped it for a bunch of hours on the way there, no issues. No issues when I started her up on sun for the trip home, only after I got gas.

FYI I have the PAC adapter...and have never had issues with the amp/sub before. Any ideas??? I have checked all visible wiring...do I need to take her apart again? reset neg terminal? clipped signal? is my amp and/or sub toast? PLEASE HELP

+ rep for any/all solutions that help

Re: HELP....wtf?

Factory head unit or aftermarket? I would start by unplugging/resetting the system, then narrow down what blew up lol.

Re: HELP....wtf?

A pac adaptor would be used on a stock h/u

I would lean towards a voltage issue, low voltage will do funky things, if your battery is getting tired sitting there, key on engine off, running the stereo and seat heaters during your refulling process I could see it drawing enough to freak some stuff out.

Re: HELP....wtf?

Factory HU

Checked the voltage with my Trinity and no issues...the stereo was on for MAYBE 3 mins w/ seat warmer, and I have done 15-20 min stints with the volume @ 22 and sub up with no issues before so IDT it is a battery issue...but I was thinking the same thing at first (stuck in vegas on a sunday after NYE with a dead battery no bueno)

Re: HELP....wtf?

If u have eliminated power source as the issue, try to bypass amp and send a signal to a speaker. If you have narrowed issue down to the amp, check the ground and entire harness for that matter. The sound you're describing does not sound promising, I would bet the amp is toast.

Re: HELP....wtf?

voltage is not a good indicator of battery health*, it needs to be load tested.

*when I say "not a good indicator" I mean beyond a shorted cell it ISNT an indicator of state of health of a battery.

Re: HELP....wtf?

yeas a load test.

did you try a simple rest Brad? discnonnect the neg terminal. step on brake for 30 seconds, then reconnect. also be sure that the battery terminals arent all crusty. hit them with some sandpaper or something to be sure they are clean./

Re: HELP....wtf?

Ive seen 6 month old batterys go bad... keep in mind they were not pulled off the assembly line and installed in your car, there is a period of sitting on the shelf.

A battery disconnect is a great idea also. Doing a battery disconnect as specified can also be accomplished by touching the battery cables together. (WHILE DISCONNECTED )
