Smile High flow cats..worth it?

Ive already have a magnaflow muffler and I was wondering if I would notice a difference if I installed magnaflow high flow cats? Has anyone had any problems using the magnaflow cats? Thanks.

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

I have one, other then the sound I did not notice anything. The only reason I went with one was because ordering a stock replacement from the dealer was gonna cost hundreds more for some reason.

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

Aftermarkets are usually less quality (less platinum and other expensive metals used to scrub exhaust)

You'll get more flow since there is less restriction... you'll notice more if you boost lol.

Instead of Magnaflow,I'm actually thinking about going with a pair of thunderbolt cats. Anybody here have them on their jeep?

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

99% of the time on late model vehicles, aftermarket cats will throw a code and light up the Check Engine light. And since I don't know of a custom tuning solution for the 3.7s, theres no way to kill the code or the light.

can you install one of those O2 emulators to fool the computer? I don't have any details on it, but sure it's there's some info out there you may want to check out (if you ran into that problem)

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

When I had my Magnaflow system installed I asked about hi-flow cats. and the guy told me the new ones are already hi-flow, so no need to change them.

No longer available. EPA had a huge lawsuit against Caspers Electronics about them. They are illegal and can no longer be made or sold.

So I guess that switching to high flow cats wont make enough of a difference to warrant the cost? I only want to do this if the difference is noticeable, otherwise ill just leave the oem cats alone.

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

Don't think you'd notice much, if anything. I also have an 05 Hemi Magnum with hi-flow cats. and after they were installed I didn't notice any difference, but was assured that they were less restrictive.

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

nope.

You wont get much of the V6 with just bolt on's. You'll need to open the engine up and put in better cams, headwork, forged internals,etc.. then rig up a supercharger since your building it up.

Re: High flow cats..worth it?

Oh, so they got sued then (the O2 emulator people)...Don't mess with the tree hugger political machine I guess I personally think removing emission components is silly these days (they don't restrict the performance like they once did and the fines are not worth it), so it does't affect me, but wow that is surprising.

As for aftermarket cats, the only reason I would buy them is because mine were out and to save some $$. If there were any increase in performance, that would be a bonus, but compared to a fully functioning oem unit, I doubt it. If you compare to a bad cat, yeah of course there'll be an increase (and where marketing really shines with their claims ). However, if it's gonna cause a problem, then forget it.

btw, what if you were to wrap the exhaust up to the cat(s) to retain as much heat as possible? Maybe this would help the aftermarkets perform like they should (oem), better heating the catalyst (platinum). Don't know 100%, just thinking out loud.
