How do I change the Clock spring?

Hey guys, new here. My fiance has a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L AWD. She has had her air bag light coming on and chiming and she is getting very annoyed with it. I did some research before joining and some said it may be the clock spring. How much does this cost to repair at a dealer and is it something I can do in the driveway? I have looked online and can not for the life of me find a clock spring for a 2006 Jeep WK.

One thread I read said there was a how to on this site but no luck with the search function and went through the DIY section and nothing containing "clock" showed up when I searched.

Please help me out. Thanks

youll have to remove the airbag first. Make sure to remove the negative on the battery and step on the brake pedal to release any stored energy before doing anything. The airbag on my 2006 just had two screws on the back side. Remove those and the airbag pulls out.

I think its the passenger airbag actually. So it wouldnt be the clock spring but rather a recalibration of the seat. She did say the horn works as well as the cruise control which I have heard sometimes go out when the clock spring is bad since they are all intermingled.

I had both lights on my jgc come on. The red light in the center cluster and the amber pass. light below radio come on. The dealership recalibrated the pass. seat. Only cost $81

Re: How do I change the Clock spring?

we called the dealership and they said its going to cost $106 just to look at it and once they determine whats wrong then they get a quote on that. Think I should just say recalibrate the seat and thats it or should we have them look it all over?

Re: How do I change the Clock spring?

Ok I just got home and got the details from my fiance'...she said when weight is on it the light on the center console comes on stating that the airbag is off and then the light on her dash comes on and the chime goes off. When there is no weight on it the light on her dash comes on at times.

Re: How do I change the Clock spring?

sounds like it needs calibrated.....BUT did it just start out of the blue? Was the seat ever removed from the vehicle or is anything crammed under the seat tht may be pinching the wires? Check all the connections too

Re: How do I change the Clock spring?

check the wires under the seat if it was never removed, they could be loose. disconnec tthe neg terminal and reconnect any loose wires. that might make the light go away. if not, then it has to be recalibrated.
