Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

4k miles synthetic, no need to change it 3k because of advancements in both the oils and the engines that need it

Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

I use a synthetic that is supposed to be changed every 5k, but I always change it around 3500.

Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

I use Valvoline Synpower. i change the oil and filter( valvoline filter, made by bosch) every 3k. i do the same in my car.
as for mixing syn and conv oils?? just buy semi-syn oil. lol
IMO using syn oil is not about the oil lasting longer and driving further on a oil change. its about better protection for your engine. so every 3k for me.
im at 38k on my gc. due for oil change in a few hundred miles. i have lost ZERO oil (still right up to the full mark) and my oil is still clear. thats y i change it every 3k. keeps the engine clean

Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

I was wondering, how long (month/s) does it take to drive , 5k, 8k or 12k miles? I don't think it is good idea to leave the old oil in the engine for extendend period of time, since the oil starts to break down after few months -Not sure though -

Thoughts?

Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

Manufacturer suggested 3k miles (or I believe or 6 months). I just use regular dino oil from the gun at work 5w30.

Furthermore, all oil manufacturers can say whatever they want but THEY will not be paying to replace your engine. I do agree that oil has come a long way, and I do believe synthetic oils are more reziliant to heat and contamination. That said I would NEVER quadruple the manufacture suggested interval no matter what the fluid.

Especially if you have a 4.7l that is prone to sludge anyway, leaving the same oil that gets contaminated with fuel and broken down by heat in for extended periods of time is just not worth the cost savings of pushing it another 1-9k miles.

Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with using these fluids, I just personally dont follow a 3rd parties suggestion whom charges up the ass for the fluid and wouldnt cover any damages.

Re: How Often Do You Change Your Oil?

I get it changed every 3000 on the dino oil. I can't see changing up to synthetic, if I was runnin a SRT at track on the weekends then yes. I put 225,000 miles on my 1999 Ford Ranger and I only used dino oil. Valves finally gave out, truck runs but throws an OBD2 code so I can't get it smogged in CA. Tried, I passed the sniff test but failed visual because of the CEL is illuminated.....bunch of BS.
