You need to think in terms of when you do oil changes. While synthetic is superior, it doesn't matter if you change your oil and filter ever 3k-5k miles.

Think of it this way. Compare a stock Jeep to one that has armor and a 6" long arm lift. Obviously the modified Jeep is superior to the stock Jeep. But none of that matters if you're just going to take it into a muddy field to drive around.

If you're going to let your oil go for 10k+ miles, it could make a difference. If you're going to change your oil every 3k miles, it won't matter. So what he said isn't necessarily one of the dumbest things.

The reason I asked that question, If I use synthetic oil, it will take me a year to put 6k miles on my WK. I use dino oil because of this reason and change every 4 months or so.
I might have to think about using the synthetic and change it every year.
If you look at the my Jeep analysis you will see it took me over a year and 1/2 to put 5000 miles on and the report came back clean. Oil doesn't go bad from time, just use.

Hello,
I saw your post about Amsoil and I'm very interested. Since I drive about 1500-1700 miles a month you can see that 3000 mile intervalsí for dino oil comes up quick. If I put Amsoil in I can change it at 15,000 miles? Do I change the oil filter at 15,000 or every 3,000 miles? Thanks for any input.
