Re: I feel a little safer in my WK now

He actually hit the truck in the front wheel. Theres plastic bumper attached to the lugnuts. The significant impact happened when the rear wheels of the truck ripped the front end off the jeep.

If you look at the final rest position of the two vehicles and how much rotation both vehicles experienced itis clear that the jeep didnt transmit a significant amount of force to the truck. If it did, thetruck would be displaced further and pushed onto the shoulder.

The jeep was pushed backward and rotated after impact.

That jeep driver is lucky he wasnt in that intersection 1/2 second sooner.

I investigate motor vehicle crashes for a living.

That jeep looks identical to mine. The passenger compartment looks completely untouched.

You should move to Minnesota- you'd never be out of work. I think we have the worst combination of horrible drivers, brutal traffic, and bad weather.

My avatar (4Runner) looks like the Jeep except I hit someone at 60 mph as they ran a stop sign. My airbags went off immediately.
Crushing metal is a very loud sound.

Sometimes if the airbag sensors are hit right the airbags will fire even if they arent really needed.

Im a state trooper, plenty of work for me in Colorado.

The bags didnt need to deploy. The change in velocity was not high enough.

I read everything you said before it's still strange to me that they didn't deploy. I understand your reasoning well I just believe there maybe another reason it didn't

Whats the reason? Do you think they malfunctioned? Look at how the cosmetic engine cover is intact along with the hood, its straight! Not enough intrusion.

Sometimes those things go off with a tap it just leads me to believe they possibly weren't functioning.
