Ya many ppl tac weld their caps. As for the aluminum side i think drilling and running a small bolt and large washer is the way to go. Cuz welding usally weakins aluminum more so than steel. (Just my opinion)
So i got back from NYC last night. Drove 3 1/2 hours and 200 miles dident stop once and it was totaly smooth. Ran 80mph for about 1 1/2 hours at one point with no peoblems

Re: I Found a Shop That Can Replace WK U-Joints…

I stumbled upon this today while I was surfing IATN... This is resulting damage from a cap having come out of the joint. The story with this was the driver swerved across 3 lanes from the sheer violence of the vibration when the cap came out. As you can see in the picture the transmission case is demolished, the transfercase was demolished.

U-joints on a daily driven vehicle, something that hits freeway speeds (ahem 110 mph) is NOT something to jerry rig...

ATTEMPT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Re: I Found a Shop That Can Replace WK U-Joints…

No problem, it should be stated, in all honesty, the WK driveshaft is probably 1/10th the weight of the driveshaft that was in that truck, so it may not even be possible to do that kind of damage only loosing a cap, but the 12 dollar ujoint is not worth even a fraction of the thousands that guy got to spend to get it truck back on the road.

His problem was an improperly installed u-joint, pinched yoke and the C clip didnt seat into the land all the way and came out.

Great to see that more are coming out with fully serviceable replacements.

Surprised to see that the V6 and the SRT8 08 models have the same part numbers though as have different transfercases and rear axles don't they?
Must share the same flanges regardless if right.

Re: I Found a Shop That Can Replace WK U-Joints…

I found a shop that's going to take the shaft out for measurements so they can fabricate a custom one. I was told the price would be between $400 and $600. They said more than likely close to $400.

I will keep you updated. I might spray the shaft yellow. Lol.
