Re: Increasing MPG by up to 35% with Pure Acetone.... anybody done this?

Acetone isn't THAT bad for you. As a chemist, yes if you plan on inhaling it all the time, then yes. But we use it as a universal solvent to clean a lot of our equipment, flasks etc etc.

I've spilt it on my countless of times in the last 5 years, you just need to be careful. Getting it on your hands isnt going to kill you. Bathing in it, is a different story.....

Anyhoo, just thought i'd throw it out there. msds sheets are out there for people to be safe, however, you dont need goggles and crap lol. If you think it works, try it.

Re: Increasing MPG by up to 35% with Pure Acetone.... anybody done this?

Thex2, it sure won't hurt to try it but, as I recall, the difference was less than 1 mpg, and difinitely not worth continued use, IMO. One thing for sure though, I never lost any mileage when using it, and it didn't harm any components on the vehicle. I suppose the difference could even be attributed to environmental conditions. I still carry a can of it, a glass measuring cup, a funnel and a rag in my LX. I used to add it just before filling up so it would mix well.

Yes! They also did the "pickup truck tailgate up or down" and the "AC or windows open" mpg tests.

If Adam and Jaime say it's not worth it, I believe them.

Plus the redhead is HOT. Nerd hot, but still hot.

this only works if you buy one of those sweet fuel saver chips. the quality name brand ones like "ebay"... you'll get more power as well as better gas mileage. :/

Re: Increasing MPG by up to 35% with Pure Acetone.... anybody done this?

it'll work, the chemistry is sound. older (pre 2000 i think) cars use a different type of rubber in their hoses which make them prone to breakdown when exposed to acetone.
