I need to get my car inspected bad, after I installed the intake and exhaust I had to drive it awhile before my computer would allow them to run something with the inspection on the engines computer. But I need new tires, my stock ones have 38k on them, do they check the tires during the inspection? I'd rather not pay 50 bucks, find out I need new tires then pay another 50 bucks to have it reinspected since im on a tight budget. :D

You don't have to pay again, if they fail it for the tires and put a rejection sticker on it you've got I think 60 days to get it fixed. If you go back to the same place they don't charge you again, only if it's over the 60 days.

60 days thats pretty good in the communist state of va its 15 days and you pay 1.00 for reinspection

Midas told me if I fail and choose not to get the work done by them they recharge the full price? That sounded strange to me which is why I asked. I dont think I would ever use Midas for any work other than my Muffler install, and definitely not any major repairs or tires. I should have the money in a week or 2 for the tires so I guess I minds well wait and hope I dont get a ticket.

I would ask your buddies if they know anyone that works at a place doing inspections that will let things slide if needed. Here in MA if you get a rejection sticker you dont have to pay for another inspection if you get things fixed in X amount of time and go back to the original inspection shop.

When iIfirst bought my WK the shop I went to wasnt going to pass me because I had a thick black rear license plate trim piece that covered some saying thing on the bottom like "The spirit of America" or some crap. He made me take it off before he would print the sticker, that was the only thing "wrong", he checked EVERYTHING, I mean put the car on a lift, every single light, horn, brakes, what a joke. So this past inspection I went to another place and all they did was honk the horn, put the front drivers side on a jack and wiggled the wheel around, then printed me a sticker. I even had the same rear lisence plate trim on and they said nothing about it. Im sure there are shops around you that wont be so anal with inspections, try to find one of them.

Oh, and I def would get an inspection done asap even if it gets rejected. Two years in a row I got tickets for out of date inspection stickers, one was from a cop who happened to be in his car on the side of the road and told me to pull over, the other was from a dam meter maid, and both went against my car insurance and paid for it for 5 years after. My car insurance went up alot because of them. Not worth it.

Here in PA it cost me about $75 per year to get each of my vehicles inspected for safety and emissions. Up until last Sat that was about $375/yr. Hell, that's not even a typical car pymnt.

To be honest, I have no problem paying it. I want to know that the other vehicles on the road with me, the wife and my kids have had things like brakes, suspension, lights, and tires check at least in the last year. I also like the fact that part of the fee goes to maintaining the roads. Even though I know my Jeeps can travel some pretty rough terrain, I prefer a semblance of maintenance on the roads I travel daily at relatively high speeds.

The tires still have tread they have 38k but should be good for a few more k miles, I wasnt sure if they only passed if you had a year left worth of tread say 10k. I just dindt feel like paying 40-50 bucks twice for something if I dindt have too. Maybe i'll take it in tomorrow, I need an oil change anyway.

It sucks but it's a good thing living in NY. In the Bronx and Queens NY you can buy just the sticker from some crooked shops just need your VIN # an other info. it's like $75. though.

So its basically what shop you bring it to, and the mood of the guy doing the inspection. Like i said with my last inspection 3 months ago, I drove up and gave the guy the keys, I think he looked at my car seeing is was newer and really didnt car. it was close to 5 so he prob just wanted to close up and go home. If you are driving a clunker im sure they will look at it more closely. If you can look at your tires and they dont stand out as being bald then I wouldnt worry about it. I would just get it done, worst thing they can do is reject it and spend money anyways. I got rejected a few years back, there was a hole in my 94 GC muffler pipe, I was pissed since it was the first time i was ever rejected, but it cost me about 6 bucks at the auto store buying one of those large metal "band aid" things in the muffler repair section, drove back and it passed fine and didnt have to pay again.
