Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

I have an 08' 4.7 (the Gen II) you are considering. I love it. Has plenty of power and many modern updates over the previous 4.7. I have not owned a Hemi to compare. One thing about the 08 and 09' 4.7's, they are kind of hard to find. I was looking ofr one specifically, in black and limited and at the time I found a total of 2 in my state.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

I had a 2007 GC with the 4.7 with H.O cams/throttlebody/Flowmaster muffler/Superchips tune and AFE Stage 2 air intake, with the mods i was probably making close to 300hp. THERE IS NO COMPARISON with that truck compared to my 2010 Hemi GC. More power and same gas mileage, even better if i am light on the pedal and run in MDS more. A major thing to consider is the 4.7L that was redesigned for 2008 was only in the GC for 2 years (08-09). It is going to be very difficult to find aftermarket parts, if they even make any yet. Go with the HEMI

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

I have driven HEMI's (even though not in awhile) and when I did compare my 04 stock 4.7HO to then a 05-06 HEMI I was not impressed. I know the new HEMI's are much better and bottom line is there is more aftermarket period for the HEMI. But I still like my lil ol' 4.7.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

08Hemi said it best. I love my 4.7HO...and have had no experience with the Hemi to compare. One other thing you may want to consider is resale. That "Hemi" badge may mean something when you go to sell it down the road.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

I, too came from a Dakota QC AWD with the 4.7. Great truck. Pulled a trailer fine (struggled a bit with the car hauler). My 06 WK with the Hemi seems to pull the heavier trailer quite a bit easier. In my experience, both were about 18-20 mpg on the freeway at 65 mph unloaded, but my 5.7 WK only does about 13 mpg in the city, where the 4.7 in the Dak did about 15 or 16 mpg; negligible IMO. Realistically, unless you need the extra muscle for towing, I don't think you would be dissatisfied with either drivetrain.

Before the naysayers start slinging at me - yes, I drive like a grandma from out in the country when I'm in the Jeep. I have a 350Z and an 1100 Sabre that keep me in very good supply of adrenaline.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

Thanks to all for your input. I think I'll concentrate on locating a 2008 to 2009 Overland 4 x 4. I just missed one last week. It was a 2008 with less than 18K on the clock. Black w/ gray interior. It was a bit pricey at $29,500 asking price. I hestiated for a few days then it was gone. It'll probably take a few months to find one like that again but I'll jump on the next one that comes up. Thanks again.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

There is a big difference between asking price at a dealer lot, and actual selling price. I would rather go with a WK with a hemi over a WK2 with the 6 cyl. I rented a WK2 with the 6 cyl yesterday and drove it through Ohio; while the chassis is very tight and quiet, the powerplant felt anemic, notably lacking in torque for such a heavy beast, and mpg avg on the HWY was just 20-21, the same as my Overland Hemi.

Re: Is there a big power difference Hemi vs. 4.7?

to me the hemi burns to much gas..it has more of torque and will put u back in ur seat more but either way you will still be impressed with the 4.7...i got the 4.7 and it has that power at times but the 5.7 prob has more of a kick to it so it depends what your looking for..
