Re: Is this 4.7L MPG really something I have to get use to???

Changing plugs every 8k is way overkill. Jeep recommends changing them every 30K.

My guess is you'll see like 18-20 with cruise set at 70 on the highway. I can get 19 out of my Hemi with MDS disabled and the lift/tires on the highway at 70.

Re: Is this 4.7L MPG really something I have to get use to???

When i drive to work every day 4 miles in city stop and go i am lucky to get 11mpg. If i drive a long trip, about an hour in to the trip keeping it at 70 ish i can get up to 18 mpg.

I have the same rig, all stock, and I drive 50 highway miles a day round trip. My ceiling is right around 18. 13 doesn't sound too out of whack if your 15 mi/day are in the city. Move farther away from work and you'll see it go up!

I'll check my plugs after I get back from my trip. But changing them every 8k is way OVERKILL and a big waste of money!!!!!

Damn I better change my plugs, is it an easy job on a 4.7? I never changed them yet and I have 38k, I need an oil change too im at like 7k. Right now im seeing 9.7MPG mostly city driving on my EVIC. Do you think the plugs and oil could be the reason for this?

The idling at start up for 10mins is also not doing the ave mpg any good. For those 10mins you are getting zero mpg. Add that to such a short commute and it is kind of surprising to me that you are getting that high an average.

If you have the right extensions, it's a 30 min job.

Re: Is this 4.7L MPG really something I have to get use to???

When you change the oil, put in a good full synthetic. Definitely do the plugs. When I bought my 06 GCO with 48000 miles, it had never had the plugs changed. So, if the vehicle is new to you I'd for sure check them. Also check your tire pressure. If you run them at factory specs., you'll get a nice ride, but lower gas mileage and tire life. I run 38 PSI fronts and 35 PSI rears. If you slow down from 70 to 65 mph you may pick up 5% or so in mileage. I have found that my mileage starts dropping off above 65 mph.

X2 on the letting it idle to warm up. That'll kill your mileage.
