I'm OCD with my engine Joe! lol they look pretty nasty to me at 8k.
On the Dakota with 4.7, i had checked them at 20k and the electrode was completely gone! same on my Camaro, i changed them every 4k (that thing needed it thought with the mods)

There just $1.70 each thought, the same you would spend on coffee and a bagel. The Jeep came with Champion copper plugs and i use the same, no need for top notch.

I have squeezed 24 MPG strictly highway miles out of my 99 with the 4.7 in it. It had a cold air intake, Bosch Platinum Plus 4's and the kolak 3" exhaust on it as well as some tires that were real thin in tread. Got my new tires on and it went down to 21 strictly highway. Now I get the 07 hemi and gas mileage is an entirely different story, but oh the power!

I've managed 26mpg once! But average about 18-19. I live 8 miles from town, so it's a straight run in on a 60mph road. Then a couple of miles of stop/ start driving. I use about a full tank each week.

Doesn't the New Superchips Update help increase MPG a bit?

Yes PITA, if this is your only car, buy 9 plugs just in case you don't have the "right" tools and break one...

After doing plugs on the wj4.7 I gladly paid the stealership $250 to do the 16 on my wk.

Re: Is this 4.7L MPG really something I have to get use to???

10 minutes of idling is going to cost you a lot in MPG, you're probably spending as much time idling as driving on that commute. As for myself I have never let any vehicle idle for more more than a minute, even when it's -3 F (which it often is here in canada). The only exception is when the windows have to be defrosted. If I think of it in time I use the block heater for 1-2 hours and drive away as soon as I can see out the front and rear glass. Don't forget...the mpg will improve when the transmission and tcase are warmed up ..and only driving it can do that. Why not try the block heater before spending money on mods?

Just do the basics like you said, maybe go to a shop and get your fuel system flushed ... I did that one time on my ZJ and I could feel the difference right away and it passed smog with flying colors.

Guys it's really easy as long as you have the right extensions. Everything is listed right on WJJeeps....
