Re: Jeep Blew It...

Yes, I agree that the renderings from the homepage look very nice. I don't however agree this car holds that "Jeep feel" they've carried for so long.

I believe they looked to take design cues from most other manufacturers in the mid-size SUV sector to help combat overall sagging sales since 2008. I think it was a "safe" design move to ride the same design train that has proven successful over the last 7-10 years for BMW, Toyota, VW, Volvo, etc.

Jeep has always been unique, yet classic, in it's styling and I'm just slightly disappointed to see their highest-end model fall by the wayside.

Re: Jeep Blew It...

you think the interior is PLAIN compared to your WK? I have a WK and a WD(2011+ Durango) and the interiors are WORLDS apart in fit, finish and quality. The interior design of the wk2's have WON AWARDS! Bob Lutz called the 2012 Jeep SRT8 the "best built vehicle IN THE WORLD!"
This is just another WK vs. WK2 thread. I thought we were all adults and finished with this pettiness here. This is the NEW Jeep Grand Cherokee...theres no going back. Theres absolutely NOTHING you can do about it. They are selling thousands of these per week all over the world. This vehicle has led the resurgence of Jeep as a company...even Chrysler as a company. Its meant thousands of jobs for the unemployed and help to revitalize Detroit and the surrounding areas. That "jeep feel" that you speak of had just about put the company UNDER. No one wanted a loud, hard plastic interiored, square bodied gas guzzler anymore. That was proven by the last few years of the WK sales. The JQ public did not like the WK. Its funny you say all this..cause I can go back and show you the WJ and ZJ guys saying this same thing about the wk....LOL. Now the WK is some part of this Jeep lore that the WK2 will never reach...wow...LOL! I fell like Im stepping back in time 10 yrs when I get in my WK.
I am the opposite of you...I see NO resemeblance to ANy other vehicle on the road. Please explain to us what kind of Grand Cherokee you would have designed that is modern and has the quality that the wk2 has. I can find a similarity between a Ferrai and a Wrangler...does that mean they LOOK ALIKE? LOL. Please explain how your design would be TOTALLY different from everything else on the road. There are only so many shapes and finishes to use on the design of a vehicle. Please enlighten us on your "Jeep Feel" design.....

Re: Jeep Blew It...

Haha. Keep in mind Scott. I didnt say I wasnt planning on buying one and I will agree, the fit and finish is way better.

Im REALLY waiting for the Harman Kardon system to be available in other WK2's other than the SRT8. I think they are doing themselves a disservice but only putting it in the SRT8 in regards to widespread attention and cost. Isnt it rumored that it will be an option in the '13-'14 models?

Right on Scott!
Different strokes for different folks...
I've only owned a Jeep for a year but I've always been a big fan and the last thing I would want is to see the disappearance of such an iconic company. The more pushes for the consumers to buy a Jeep, no matter what type or design, the better! And I'm all for anything thats going to give jobs to hard working Americans to ensure the longevity of not only the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep brand, but the areas of the US that have been depreciated over the past few years.
I may not be lining up to grab a newly designed WK.. but I'm in no way gonna trash it.
Rather see 100 "ugly" jeeps in one parking lot than 100 Hondas.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
The SRT8 needs to differentiate itself from the standard WK2 IMO. I like having exclusive features and interior stylings. SRT is its own brand, so it needs to be unique. It wouldn't have that distinguished feel if it looked like an Overland.

I don't really see this as being non-adult and "petty", it was simply a conversation amongst people who drive Jeeps about the styling of their new model. The same thing you'll find over on the BMW or Mustang forums. Nothing too crazy going on here.

I'd be interested to see your information regarding this. I'm pretty sure Jeep is Jeep because of it's classic styling and uniqueness, the same reason people have clamored over them with a cult following for decades.

Actually this primarily had to do with the economy and consumers inability to spend. Are you also saying that every car model in 2008 was a bust because of low sales numbers? I'm confused?

Quote:

I can't speak on behalf of these people you know, but I enjoy most every model Jeep has produced. I just didn't agree with all the changes in styling of the WK2, it feels like a huge departure from their previous efforts and the classic "Jeep feel".

Quote:

I'm not sure how this thought was contrived but I'd be interested in seeing what you speak of here. I for one see zero similarities between the two and think they look nothing alike. I do feel Audi, BMW and VW have cars with similar design lines however(they are all SUV's in this case, none of their sports-car models)

Quote:
Please enlighten us on your "Jeep Feel" design.....
I'm not sure explaining a new vehicle design with text would do it any justice, but my point was just that IMO they took the trend of mid-size SUV design, integrated it into the WK2 and shipped it out. I don't hate the car, I just don't think it feels as much like a "Jeep".... To me.

I really wasn't trying to make people angry with this post, in fact I didn't realize that could even happen with an opinion about something nobody here had ANY hand in. I was just disappointed in what I felt was a cop-out to help swell sales in following a design trend in the industry(that I already hated). Just never thought Jeep would do that. I guess you gotta survive however you can.

It's not that you made anyone angry with your post. You've been on the site all of 2 weeks, if you searched the subject, there are dozens of threads in the last 2 years on the same WK vs WK2 subject. Many of the threads have gotten so heated they end up in flammables or deleted entirely. Some people just DO NOT LIKE the WK2 for whatever reason, we get it, but it's been around awhile now and sales have proven quite a few folks do like it. I'm quite sure when the next gen Jeep comes out people will be complaining that they wish it was more like the WK2.

That was one of the longest Scott tirades I've seen in awhile, LOL! Go Scott!

I had a WJ for 7.5 years, would have upgraded earlier, but didn't like the style of the WK at all. When the WK2 came out I thought it was a great design and ordered one as soon as finances would allow, and now having had it for 3 months, I think it is absolutely fantastic, and am the envy of a lot of my mates.

Re: Jeep Blew It...

i agree with scott, when i look at my wk it feels so outdated. if i needed a new vehicle i would trade my wk in for a wk2 in a heartbeat. it's not that i don't like my wk, trust me i do, but i really like the wk2's...inside and out!

I agree 100% and can only hope to own a wk2 some day.

I used to think my 05 wk was really nice... Until the WK2 came out. Now I feel like scott, its old now and the wk2 is calling my name.

If you hate the wk2 so much where were you on the compass/patriot?
