Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK resale/trade-in value SVCKS!!

Don't forget to factor in that you bought a end of model year car when the newly reengineered 2011's were released.

Please let us know what you actually paid for the vehicle, not including fees and taxes. Will give us a better idea of real depreciation.

Chrysler was heavily discounting at that time, and also offering enhanced trade in bonuses to clear the lots of the remaining 10's.

Hard to compare new car sticker prices to prices actually paid.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK resale/trade-in value SVCKS!!

I don't think that Jeep is any worse than most other vehicles. Last month a client of mine had a 2010 Lexus RX350 that he paid $53,000 for and was offered $30,000 by the dealer and sold it himself for $32,000.

Yes, that will always affect resale...to what extent is always brand-based.

Due to it being this "S" limited edition, there was no discounts from the dealer. The greedy ones were selling for over sticker price. There was a $1,000 incentive from Jeep that was applied. The salesman rounded the sticker down to the thousand column. Before taxes & fees $44,000.

No trade in , straight purchase.

Maybe not worse, but there are other SUV's that hold their value better such as the Audi Q5 & the Q7.

Audi???

Similar spec Q5..... $50,000
Q7......$63,000

You think a 63,000 dollar suv will hold its value better? You need to drive a camry.

ABSOLUTELY!

Q5 & Q7's are the hottest thing going for Audi. Dealers are not discounting more than $1k off sticker. The time they sit on a lot from delivery to sale averages 10 days. Trade-in/wholesale prices are above the guidebook prices.

Friend bought a 2011 Q7 new, drove it 12,xxx miles. Traded it in at a minor loss of $8,500 from what he paid.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK resale/trade-in value SVCKS!!

I have always sold my jeeps, the dealer will give you shit for your jeep, selling to someone private will like all the extras and they do not have to pay tax . When I got my 05 WK the dealer was going to give me 4k for my 99 wj and I sold it myself for 14k. So sell it to yourself.

Selling privately is not just hard, but a major hurdle once the price is in the double digits.

And when you're in the 20's and 30's, even harder. The majority of people will go through a dealer for the financing and for the lemon law protection.

It makes no difference to people either if it still has a factory warranty.

Well you didnt say what he paid but using my Q7 price, he lost 13% in one year.
You lost 37% in three years. You lost 17k and if he would have waited 3 years he would have lost 25k! Extrapolated to an even number of years you are still ahead of him.

He traded on a one year old vehicle in its current model series. As stated you are trying to trade in the last bodystyle instead of the current one.

New cars that are financed are meant to be kept for 5 years if you get an average interest rate. If you get anabove average interest rate and finance it longer than 5 years then you get screwed on trade in day when your new car itch begs to br scratched.

Lease your next vehicle and see if that better fits your short and long term needs.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK resale/trade-in value SVCKS!!

This is why I drive my vehicles long enough to where the trade in doesn't matter anymore.

Previous vehicles:
2001 BMW X5 - traded in 2011 with 213K miles (for a new Q5 ), got $3K for it
2001 Ford F150 Supercrew - private sale in 2006 with 179K miles, got $7900 for it!!
1995 Chevy S10 - private sale in 2001 with 150K miles - got $5K
1995 Honda Del Sol - blew engine at 200K and had salvage title (long story) - still got $3K for it!

Based on the above I guess private sale is best way to go! But I do understand trading to avoid all of the hassle and in GA it reduces the amount of tax you pay on the new one.
