Re: Jeep Recall

Sorry about the last paragraph in my previous post.... I mistook a previous post's intentions.....

This issue has exploded on the other forum and the Jeep Rep. is trying to help people get their vehicles reflashed as per the STAR bulletin that was issued on 3/3/14... Anyone whose dealer put them on a list for a new actuator should be getting notified that the back ordered actuators have been canceled and will only be replaced after the vehicle has been reflashed as per the STAR bulletin from 3/3/14 and will be handled on a case by case basis as per Lee aka JeepCares:

Quote:
Dealers need to read and perform exactly:
Recall N23
and, if necessary:
STAR Case S1321000016 Diagnostic Trouble Code C140F Transfer Case Range Position Sensor Erratic Performance After Performing Recall N23 .

All a dealer has to do to find this information is to go into TechCONNECT (under the Service tab in DealerCONNECT.)

They need to enter your VIN. If they don't know where to get the information from there, the can just put "N23" in the search field and then click on Recall N23 or STAR Case S1321000016.

**********************

If the dealer still thinks the vehicle needs an actuator and goes to order the part, the dealer will get some information to be given to the servicing technician. It basically reiterates how they should be repairing/diagnosing the vehicle. To actually order the part the dealer has to contact our STAR center, rather than ordering it via their computer.

This information to be given the technician is available in GPOP (Chrysler's Part ordering system).
They need to get the tech tip from GPOP.

If they look at the tech tip in DealerCONNECT, they will just be told where specifically to return the part (and who to send it to.)

Different dealers may have different software so they may see the above in slightly different formats.

Re: Jeep Recall

still if you have not had the n23 recall done keep an eye on that thread to see if the new flash works after a month or two. I know I will be waiting a couple months. Thanks for posting that is good info!

Re: Jeep Recall

Needed my 4-Low back after the recall, performed in the fall. To my surprise, the dealer was super-cooperative & re-flashed to the letter. No charge, no hassle, no dirty-looks, no sweat. The invoice lists a specific STAR case# to "correct condition." Ready to wheel again.

I'm a XK owner searching this forum for any N23 recall information that I'm not aware of, but this thread is pretty quiet. I recognize a few others here from the Jeep Forum. I guess nobody here has issues? A new software program is rumored that will hopefully repair any N23 bugs that other Commander and GC owners have experienced.

Re: Jeep Recall

Sounds like I won't be taking my Jeep in for this anytime soon after reading all of this!

Yeah, I would hold off at least till the new software ( if it's true ) is proven. The current software sucks.

According to a Jeep representative on the Jeep Forum engineers are working on this. But you can't believe anything they tell you so time will tell. So far all talk and no action.

Re: Jeep Recall

Reflashed mine on 3-15 & got 4-low back. Went to do some wheeling yesterday, 5-9, & no low range. Kinda pissed about it. Wish I would have never done the bullshit N23 Recall. Anybody have a part number for the FDCM, shift actuator, or WTH you wanna call it?

Re: Jeep Recall

My nightmare with this has gone from bad to worse and not sure what is going to happen next. Made the mistake of leaving my backup unflashed FDCM in the GC when I took it in for an oil change last week. Needless to say before I went 10 miles the Service 4wd light came on while i was driving. Swapped FDCM's, went back the dealer and tech comes out, erases the code and tells me its fixed. Service manager says if it comes on again I probably need a new shifting motor.... Drive home, park it and next morning I go out and start the GC and bang - Service 4wd.....

Went to 2 auto shops and a transmission shop and no one can clear the code with the original or the backup... Called the Jeep hotline and said I want to get a STAR case going as it has been flashed 3 times not including the original recall. They call my dealer and I talk with him and made an appointment on Wed (5-14) . Went in and they went over the system and couldn't clear the codes either. Was told they are ordering a new shifting motor and FDCM under the STAR case..... No cost... However, my Service 4wd light is still lit and they said just drive it like that until the parts come in. *You're kidding right!!!!!***

#1 - there is no estimate on when the parts will be available
#2 - if this tears something else up, whose going to pay? Not me !!!

Told the service guy that I have a back up FDCM that hasn't been flashed yet just in case they can't get this fixed and he said that's a good idea. Problem is, it wasn't working after they did the oil change. Not even sure what they did at this point.

Re: Jeep Recall

Did the fuse pull trick to verify that it was the FDCM. Pulled the back seat up to get the version number (...199AJ). A guy on the "other" forum hooked me up with the same pre-flash model. 4 low is back in action. Still hanging on to my flashed FDCM in case there is ever newer software that actually works.

It seems that a software update should be done, but when.. the tech in the dealership recognize that all models flashed with the software from N23 recall have the problem.
it would be super to get the modules put back In the original configuration

Re: Jeep Recall

OK, Jeep has been at dealer for a week. Recall was done last year, before hitting 100K I tried the 4wd lo and it didnt work, they "fixed" it and then it went out again, they did reflash that they forgot to do the first time, 4wd lo was working but got "service 4wd system" message, they replaced actuator, "service system" message came back after a few days (4wd lo still working), so took it back AGAIN.

Found on the other site this morning that there is a new July 10, 2014 program update: 21-022-14. Called dealer to inform them and they told me they had just completed it and was currently testing it, so I might get it back today.

I will keep everyone updated on whether this fixes the issue.
