Re: Jeep Recall

Had the N23 recall FDCM reprogramming performed this morning.

In-and-out of the service bay in a "flash".

Re: Jeep Recall

Received the letter 2 weeks ago and my Jeep was booked in for 8.00am tomorrow morning. Dealership rang tonight 5.00 pm and cancelled the booking as they are having problems with the computer system online.
Couldn't give me an alternative time slot until they know the system is working correctly!!!

So I had the update done on Saturday and it was quick and easy. Hadn't drove the Jeep since...until today.

1. Starting it and taking it off my inclined driveway was fine and I parked it at Gerbes. When I left, I started her and went to take a turn and she lurched like 4wd was engaged and my turning radius was smaller. It was strange because that's never happened before but I just let it go...and headed over to Walmart and parked.

2. When I went to leave, and threw her in reverse, it felt and sounded like the rear diff or torque converter wouldn't engage and my traction control light started blipping. I threw it in drive and it was still lurching/grinding for a few feet before it fixed itself and started out smoothly.

My Jeep has NEVER experienced issues like this before and I'm worried the software update screwed me...what should I do!?

Re: Jeep Recall

As an update to my previous post, I let the Jeep warm up before shifting into gear today and it seemed to work fine. I guess I'll just be a bit more careful about slipping it into gear within 30sec of starts now to hopefully avoid this issue in the future.

Due to the other posts in this thread, I went ahead and checked my 4WD LO functionality and it still works fine after the update.

Re: Jeep Recall

Went to my dealer to update the software on the transfer case problem, and what ever files they updated cause me a ton of grief! My 5.7 with a K&N cold air, Airraid throttlebody spacer, and MSD Blaster coils, oh, and a Magnaflow 44, didn't like it. It's been running rough at idle, and now has stalled a few times. I never had a problem like this. This WK always has run perfectly, even with the add-ons. I get 27.7 mpg on the highway and about 13.7 in the city. Power is enormous. I now have an appointment with them to do some testing to see what happened. I'm bummed.

Surely that's a type and your HEMI doesn't somehow make 27.7mpg on the highway...

And an update to my situation: it's still doing the weird locking rear stuff. I'm calling my dealer tomorrow to report it to have it on record. If something gets messed up, Jeep will be paying for it for sure!

Re: Jeep Recall

Seriously, no joke... The highway mpg is no typo. I do allot of highway driving, and if I keep it at about 1900 - 2000 rpm, which is about 65 mph, that's what I get. If I get time, I'll have to take a pic of the cluster and post it. Now, when I originally bought this WK with 24,000 miles on it, I was getting about 15 -17 on the highway. I will tell you that the MSD Blaster coils made a huge difference. The K&N as well. Thnx for the reply.

Call me a skeptic, but the HEMI already has a dual spark system (wasted spark) to use as much gas as possible. I've NEVER heard of a HEMI getting that kind of mpg before, so I'll believe your claim when I see it.

Also, spending $400 on MSD coils seems like a waste...

Re: Jeep Recall

Update: took my WK into the dealer today and they said "this is the second one where the reflash didn't work..." I told them to check through the transfer case AND rear diff for any damage b/c I won't be paying for it! Might give me a chance to test out this new-fangled law degree thing

Update 2: Just got back from the dealer and it seems to be shifting OK. However, I really only experienced the issue after letting her sit for a bit and then starting and shifting from there. Time will tell if the "reflash redux 2" did the trick.

Update 3: Took her on a 250mi round trip this weekend. All was well until I stopped for gas when I got back to town. It seems that the problem is mostly triggered when I move the steering wheel to full lock position. This time, the ABS light, T/C light, service 4WD system and service electronic brake system messages came up, meaning one of my wheel speed sensors is now toast. Did the key trick and came up with U1417, meaning one of my two left side sensors is bad. Ordering from J4J and getting both F/R. Hopefully just the front needs it since it seems to be initiated by turning anyway. Maybe it was my ABS being crazy all along during this saga.
