Re: Jeep Recall

Update: my Jeep is back home and I replaced the rear wheel speed sensor now...that little $h*t was a bugger to get out! I had to wiggle and tap for about 15 minutes to get it out, and had to tap for another 5 minutes to get the new one in place! However, after that fix, all the lights went off and it hasn't acted up in a full day. I'm really putting her through the ringer to make sure she's totally fixed. The dealer wanted to charge me $285 for the sensor replacement, when it's a $31 part...the repair took me just over 30 min.

Anyway, the question remains whether the "update" actually caused this issue. It seems strange that after having NO PROBLEMS with these systems, that they started going crazy after the update and required replacements of both of my left side wheel speed sensors.

I guess I may never know. Hopefully this issue is behind me.

P.S. - to my knowledge, the other WK is still sitting there, with all kinds of electrical gremlins after the update. I may have mentioned it before, but apparently that one has been shutting off while driving which started right after the update.

Re: Jeep Recall

My Jeep went in for recall not exactly sure what they did. Came back with an advisory on replacing brake fluid.
Since the recall I have had egr fault code 4 times in a week then it cleared itself ,fine for a few days then returned.
Took back to Jeep they found Historical egr fault and low battery voltage code, never had a battery problem in 2 years but battery 7 years old so I replaced it.
since then I have had a different problem -from start engine would not idle, select D and engine would stall, engine would only run at increased idle 800/900 rpm on pedal but would not rev up, very rough lots of exhaust smoke continued like this for 5-10 mins then suddenly cleared. had engine MIL light until next switch off.
anyone had anything similar??
Only since recall!!!

Your issues sound more like what's happening to the other WK at my stealership.

Brentwoodkris - any additional issues? Mine is at the dealer now due to the other morning while driving to work the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Jeep still drove ok, but blinkers, turn signals, radio, seat heaters, etc. quit working. Remote would not lock doors, so I had to use inside door lock button. Jeep sat in parking lot for a few hours and when I came back out everything seemed to work again but I had a check engine warning still on the dash. Took it to dealer and they said there were three pages of codes. This happened Monday - it is Thursday and they still have no clue what is causing the issue. Luckily they did give me a loaner, but I want my Jeep back!!

Forgot to mention I had the recall work done a month or so ago, but I also had a tuneup and other work done in the past few weeks, not sure if the current issue is due to the recall work or the most recent stuff - apparently the dealer doesn't either...

I haven't had any more issues, thankfully and I haven't heard anything from my contacts at my dealer re: the other WK in the shop and whether it's fixed or not.

However, your issue (except for the CEL codes) seems closer to an ignition switch problem or the crazy MF stalk issue. I had the MF stalk issue a while back and it was pretty scary. Thanks to JG though, the fix was relatively cheap and straight-forward.

Did you have a post regarding this issue or can you tell me what the issue was and what was the fix?

I'm sure I have multiple posts on this and so do many others. You can search "multifunction" or "ignition switch" and see just how frequent the issue is.

Basically, the connections in one of those two places get old and corrode, etc over time. Apparently this causes our gauge clusters to go crazy and headlights turn on/off, radio on/off, all gauge lights on, etc.

Mine was the MF stalk and I did the replacement and haven't had an issue since.

Also, if you search "multifunction" in the "how to/DIY" section, there is an install guide for adding fog lights to the WK, which requires the upgraded MF stalk with the fog light switch pull out. The pictoral guide is very useful and will show you that the job will take 10 min.

Dealer ordered MF switch. Hope this fixes it!

FYI, Jeep is still under 100k warranty, so they are taking care of it. Otherwise I would be doing all of this work.

Well thankfully the "all this work" you describe is super straight-forward. If the dealer mechanic knows what he's doing, you should be in and out in 30 min. I'm really surprised that they're listening to you and just changing the part -- usually you have to fight with them to have them swap a part you've diagnosed yourself.
