Re: Knob Job...

Hey guys!!
OK, I got me a rubber glove (no jokes!) so I could get a better grip on the chrome ring on the bottom. I then twisted it counter-clockwise 1/4 turn. It dropped down and the shifter knob just came off. I think I broke the tabs that hold the chrome-like ring though . . .

And BT for the win! I love their shifter. If you do go with the BT shifter, I recommend ordering the shifter sleeve ($7 I think). Gives the shifter shaft a thicker look.

I hope this helps....

Thanks, I ordered the natural finish billet shifter with clear anodize.

I got a confirmation email today that my shifter should be done and shipped in about 2 weeks. I guess they dont have them on the shelf already anodized so the anodizing is done after the order is placed and can take up to 20 days.

SO, once it arrived i will post pics.

The shifter is 1 piece and does not need the sleeve to cover the shaft as that is part of the shifter in a 1 piece unit.

this is what i ordered. it looks like the one in the picture.

They ship USPS Priority so i should be here early next week. Will post pics when installed. I also added a note to them telling them it is for an 05 WK seeing as the listing is listed under WK SRT8 parts it should fit fine.
I installed mine on the weekend, looks good. The shift knob on my 2008 S Limited popped right off.

Re: Knob Job...

The BT Knob arrived today. But i cant install it. They never made the hole for the shaft in it bigger to accept the WK shifter shaft. They list the part under SRT8 WK Listings and i told them that it is for a WK you would think there would be provisions done for this.

Fortunatly, we have a machine shop at work and tons of calipers on hand so i am going to measure the diameter of the shaft and have the hole machined out to fit the shifter shaft.

Hopefully it can be done tomorrow and i will add pics after install.

Re: Knob Job...

So today is good and bad.

Brought the shifter in to work and had the guy machine the hole to 13/32nds. It fits like a glove. But, the guy did not realize how soft the aluminum for the shifter was so 1 rib on the front and back is slightly flattened and the matte finish is rubbed off from the vise he put it in to drill it out. So **** me.

I cant really get pissed though because he did me the favor and on company time where he could have got in to alot of trouble doing it. They are very anal about personal stuff on or off the clock on company property.

So what i plan to do is carefully remove the rubber rings/grips on the knob. Then where the rib was flattened i will carefully file the mushroomed part flat on each side of the rib, re shape the edges and then i will polish the entire knob to a nice finish. If i dont like the shiny finish i can give it a brushed finish.

I will take close up pics of the damage and post them in a few minutes.

For now here are some pics of it installed.

Overall, i love the look and i love the feel, its very solid feeling as you shift or rest your hand on it while driving.

Well worth the sale price of $25.

Re: Knob Job...

Here are some better pics. you can see in the close ups that in the middle of the shifter on both sides there is a slightly flattened area that bulges to the rubber rings above and below it. the bulge is just below the 2nd ring from the top. also the matte finish is rubbed off and its shiny.
