Leather on steering wheel

Has anyone experienced the leather on the steering wheel peeling or flaking off on the top where your hand would rest? I hate to ask but is this normal???

Re: Leather on steering wheel

Mines flaking too. It is known for our Jeeps to do this. I'm going to order a new Steering Wheel when I have the chance.

Re: Leather on steering wheel

I always get a black wheel cover from walmart. They are SUPER tight(pain to get on) but they do a really good job and feels good.

They all do it. It's a normal issue.

Re: Leather on steering wheel

So if I slurge on a new wheel how do I keep it from happening? I mean do you guys with newer Jeeps have this problem as well? Is their a recall for it?

Re: Leather on steering wheel

Nope.. thats just from wear... even the rubber ones do it.

Just have to get a cover for it.. or that replaced. Ima bet a cover will be lots cheaper.

Re: Leather on steering wheel

You guy's need to relax when you drive. No "death grip" and the leather might last longer.

Re: Leather on steering wheel

I've heard people get this replaced under warranty so check that out before buying anything.

Re: Leather on steering wheel

Ya mine is doing this too....I guess its understandable for 5 years worth of wear on it but still its kind of annoying. Has anyone replaced theirs? How much did it cost and how hard was it to do it?

I was thinking of maybe replacing mine....

Re: Leather on steering wheel

I always use a steering wheel cover, they protect the wheel and keep the rubber/leather from degrading due to friction and oils in your skin.
