Little Mod for the Stock Air Box

So I spent the last 30 minutes helping the GF in her first mod! :woot: Well it actually started out me just cleaning her air filter but after I started peaking around I decided to make it into a mini mod lol

So pictured if the stock air box area which has a little collector behind the grill.

I decided to remove it.

The only thing now that is kind of a concern is what happens when it rains? Does the water get sucked into the inlet and start to collect at the bottom of her air box?

Well in any case first impression by her: I did not really tell her what to expect or what I really did. When she lets off the brake in gear the Jeep seems to move more easily forward. She reports a feel in response more so throughout the power band. Next thing to do for her is get an AFE Pro Dry filter and maybe a new muffler and lift

I will report more results later on as she continues to drive it.

I did this on my Hemi when I installed the CAI and I haven't had any problems yet.

Re: Little Mod for the Stock Air Box

same here...when I had my AIRAID I took the flappy off and didn't have any issues (flappy still off, but snorkel is out too when I put the BWoody on)...more debris and grime will get in there; the AIRAID uses the lower-half of the stock air box and I would find all kinds of random insects and crap @ the bottom of the box...but I am sure you will be a good BF and clean her box ughh I mean pipes ugh crap I mean intake HA

Re: Little Mod for the Stock Air Box

I might pop it off since I have the AFE intake and the filter is UP high.

Re: Little Mod for the Stock Air Box

I only noticed a slight difference in sound with the airaid...butt dyno felt good but it was all sound more than likely. Seemed as the engine was not breathing out of a snorkel at 35-75 mph...

Re: Little Mod for the Stock Air Box

I attached a piece of bug screen to the back of the grille, keeps the bugs out of the air intake and keeps the bugs off the radiator. I've only be running this for a week so far.

Hmmm sounds like a good idea to put a piece of screen just over where the flap was removed to keep junk out of the filter box.

x2 I might fit something up just for the front of the collector there.

On a different note, do these engines have any collectors going through the fender well or any other areas? Didnt take that good of a look
