Lock up torque convertor in lower gears

I was wondering if anyone has ever set up the torque convertgor to lock up in lower gears.

WE will be doing some towing with a 3.7 v-6 and will probably need to stay out of overdrive to generate enough power, but it would be nice to allow the convertor to lock up on the highway to help improve fuel mileage and the reduce the heat generated in the tranny. The 3.7 uses the same Mercedes tranny as the Hemi.

Its poasible via hptuners....however, the 3.7 does not share the same trans as the 5.7. Its shared with the 6.1 SRT. Meaning its a perfomance trans when compared to the 545-FRE behind the 4.7 and 5.7's...

The factory calibration has it set to apply the TTC at 3k rpms. I am currently doing some testing on locking it sooner based on throttle posistion...

Re: Lock up torque convertor in lower gears

I have the Mopar Performance TCM in my Hemi LX and it locks the NAG1 up in second gear and (I think) stays off at all other times. My fuel economy went up about a mile per gallon on the LX. I haven't tried to monitor much with it...just drive it, but this summer I plan to get an HPTuner (which will work on both LX and WK) and I'll be messing with both then. Jeff, let us know the way you end up setting yours.

Will do, i currently have it set to lock up in 1st at 75% throttle and up @ 2500 vs the factory 3k . So far 1st feels better....

However i have a new issue developing i need to dig thru my tune to figure out.... she's cutting out abouve 4k in second gear and up under wot. Fuel isnt too bad, running 12.1 to 12.4 at wot so its a touch rich off 12.7 so i think its timming related. Im going to throw in a older map and see what it does

Re: Lock up torque convertor in lower gears

Can you tell if the HP will set TCC schedules on a 545RFE without having it hooked up to one? If it'll work on them, I am in for sure. The NAG1, with the Performance TCM, works pretty good the way it is....don't know if I'd mess with it too much other than to see what the settings are. Well, maybe I'd tinker with it a llittle. I think the first thing I's do is set the old stock TCM up like the Mopar Performance one.

I also don't want to take the LX to the stealer for the air bag recall, but I am afraid I'll have to. After all it's for the passenger air bag and I don't want anything happening to the wife. I am just afraid they'll screw with the PCM/TCM for some reason....which would piss me off to no end.

Re: Lock up torque convertor in lower gears

Bummer, mine is an 06. Wonder why it won't cover all the way back to at least the 05's? Thanks for the link though.

Oops! I saw later in the post that they're working on it. That is GOOD. Hopefully they'll be done soon. It's been quite a while (almost a year) and the HP folks aren't adding any new info. Maybe I'll wait until it's actually out to get mine.
