Looking at 2006 cherokees

I'm looking to buy a used 2005 to 2007 Cherokee. I would appreciate any advice or hints on any out of the ordinary things on these models to look out for. I know the standard items to check for buying used ,but are there items special on Cherokees I need to be aware of ? Thanks Jay

get the trim level you want so you dont regret anything later on... do your research, and make sure the one you buy has a good maintenance history and no major accidents.

other than that good luck!

i got my 07 almost a year ago with like 48k on it no issues with it so far and i love it!

Re: Looking at 2006 cherokees

take it to auto zone and have them run it for codes. Just because the lights not on, doesn't mean there isn't something sneaky in there. i wish i had done that.. turns out there was a few issues lurking.

I have an 06 4.7 that I bought new. Have 41,xxx miles on it. Only problems I have had are the exhaust manifold on drivers side was leaking. Cost $500 + to repair broken bolts. And oh yeah that annoying creaking noise in the door hinges. Otherwise has been trouble free.

the door hinges on my 08 WK with 50K on it just started doing the creaking/occasional screech.. I'm assuming the cold northeast weather is a factor.. but whats the best way to stop it? just spray some WD-40 at em?

Re: Looking at 2006 cherokees

I had the exhaust manifold issue, and the doors creaking. The lights on my A/C have also gone out. Apparently that's common. Doesn't really bother me, but it's something to check.

Re: Looking at 2006 cherokees

I would just echo Akimball, and Yillb I wish I had gotten some options that I'm used to having. Most other vehicles I could just add them in, but it's a little difficult with these. Other than that I love my 3.7 it's a great runner, and I don't see a lot of people having trouble with them. However don't buy it if you're looking to tow get one of the v-8's . They're both good motors The 4.7I think is known for the exhaust manifold bolts breaking. It's not a terrible fix, and can be handled if you're decent with tools. If you want all the toys, and power find a Hemi-Overland. It's a great truck I just can't do that gas mileage. However if you tow, or seriously off road it's the way to go.
I thought i did enough research, but if I knew what I know now I probably would've brought a limited/

After doing my submarine act during Sandy I had the same problem with my hinges. I tried a few different things to no avail, and finally this liquid wrench white lithium stopped the squeak.

There was a technical bulletin in this forum somewhere that said to use lithium grease and apply it inside the roller. I have tried every thing but that and nothing has worked for long. Will be trying the lithium inside the roller next. Saw another post here about it.
