I'm not sure, just a thought....
I don't know about that. Maybe the pump runs hot because its trying to pump gas that isn't there. Idontknow

Re: Low Gas!!

lolz

fellas, i wish i had pics of how many times i removed my filter/pump in my old jeeps for riding it soo low on gas all the time (i was a broke ass ma'phucker teenager) shit was hilarious to see and feel the difference after the change every time. my boy phil, would joke on me all the time, it was funny.
now i dont know claim to know anything for sure (((this was my XJ and ZJ jeeps, i never rode my WJ/overland that low ever really))) just my two cents on this though

naturally my SRT gets the low on gas virtualy instantly but i never let it get that low where my light chimes on. i always fill her up at a 1/4 tank marks. esp fill up on more than enough gas when i go on trips on the highway, even short trips- cause you never want to run out of gas on the highway(cause of traffic buildup) and the SRT eats gas like WHOA! --i still love it though hahaha

cheers-

Re: Low Gas!!

Ive never had any issues tunning it very low. I had an 87 Cherokee Xj and replaced the gas tank in 2004 because of a puncture and the old tank was clean as can be.

Re: Low Gas!!

I ran my Jeep down to 0 miles yesterday. I filled it up after that and it was 17.5 gallons to fill. That still leaves 3 gallons of fuel when it says "empty". There is a buffer. In the summer I don't worry about it. In the winter I never let it get below 1/4 tank.

Re: Low Gas!!

very interesting input..... thank you everybody!!!!
So, is it possible that the forward jerking it has been doing is due to the fact the there is a problem with my fuel pump. when i stop at a red light, it turns green, and i hit the gas there is a kinda jerking movement that was not there when i bought the jeep. it does the same when i'm about to stop for a red light or a stop sign.

Yes the gas does keep the pump cool...That is why most Manufacturer will recommend not letting the gas get below 1/4 tank...The pump will run hotter with no gas to cool it and it will wear quicker

Re: Low Gas!!

I try not to let it get below 1/4.

Same thing I've heard.

It is 20.5 on the 05/06 I think and 21.1 on the 07+...

In my WK I've driven probably 25-30 miles after it said 0 miles to empty, and I only put in 19.8 gallons. It was VERY conservative.

In my truck, it's pretty true. I filled up one time and it said I had about 7 miles to empty and I put in 25.467 gallons and it is a 26 gallon tank.

Re: Low Gas!!

The EVIC lies. Even when I've pushed it 20 miles past when it reads zero 'miles to empty' it still takes at least 19 gallons to fill up. Ok, one time I pushed it until it needed 19.6 gallons to refill. But in mine when the light comes on it's, guaranteed, to take no more than 17.5 to refill.

As for sediments and clogging, today's gas deliveries are a lot cleaner than in the past. I've had boats and vintage cars sit around for upwards of a year with absolutely no gas-related troubles at all. Now, I wouldn't suggest making a regular habit of running it until empty, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it either way.
