Lower front clip - paint question

I recently purchased a Brilliant Black 2010 Limited and I noticed that the lower front valence is a little different color than the rest. Let me try to describe this...

The main part of the bumper is clear coated and "deep" where the lower part looks like rough plastic that has the "brilliant" sparkle to it but no clear coat. Is this normal or did someone do a hack job repair on my Jeep before I bought it?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Marcus

Re: Lower front clip - paint question

any paint at all or just plastic? The front air dam should come painted for the limited's.

Re: Lower front clip - paint question

It looks painted then you get up close and it's as if there is just a shot of color and no clear over it. Definitely not the same as the top portion if you look closely. I'll have to take some pictures.

Re: Lower front clip - paint question

sounds like a potential fix by the dealer to cover up a minor accident. Ive seen 2010's in person and the lower valance matched the front bumper exactly, finish wise.

Re: Lower front clip - paint question

there was a thread here about the texture and feel of that part(lower airdam) vs the other body panels and some said that their painted airdam was a bit rough compare to the other panel so it might be normal. Looking forward to the pics

Re: Lower front clip - paint question

I have an 08 in Brilliant black and the lower part of the bumper or air dam as it is called is a textured plastic with the brilliant black paint and a flex agent in the paint to keep it from peeling off if it gets hit on a curb. This different paint process and the lack of the clear coat make it look different. The single stage finish does not shine like the front bumper.
