Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

IME it just isn't needed.

I've changed out my gear lube twice now, the WK has close to 60k miles on it and not a single sign of any issues so far. I'll continue to change it at 25 to 30k mile intervals with the appropriate wt mobile1 and suspect the original gears and other parts will still be in place at 200k miles.

Could just be that the mobil1 product is simply better formulated than the mopar stuff? Seems the formula already has what it needs to work with lsd diffs ....

With no whine/other issues I'd continue with what you have been using, can't argue with that .

Re: LSD Additives...Where to find?

perhaps because the Mobil 1 has LSD already in it, as far as I know, and mopar fluid (and some others) doesn't....you could also be on the threshhold of needing additional; who knows...Whatever the thoughts are on the subject, the fact is a limited slip differential needs some sort of additive beyond 'gear oil'. if it's blended, well it still contains it...

Also, being there's mechanical action occurring and each assembly wears differently (too many variables of factors such as temperature extremes, movement speed/alignment, etc.), the amount of additive could also vary down the road (beyond what is contained premixed)...

I would bet if you put mopar gear oil alone or another fluid that does not contain the additive, you would get chatter.

Not here to argue this, just if somebody changes their diff oil then gets some chatter/rubbing feeling on turns, chances are there is not sufficient LSD additive (or the right kind) , they'll now more than likely know what is causing it.

Is this true for the 05 WK with QD2? would buying a BG LSII additive & mix it be prudent or overkill?

Thanks in advance!
