LX or just a std WK?

I bought a 2005 Limited 5.7L. I've been doing a lot of work on it because i didn't think the previous owner was nearly as thorough in the maint. as he had claimed, i.e. map sensor never changed-all tabs still intact, pcv valve looked to never having been removed, cleaned tb (wow, what a pita!), replaced spark plugs(another major pita). I'm replacing the air intake reso with an SRT intake tube. I was looking at the exhaust manifolds and they appear to look like the LX mani's jeepcoman had posted about. How can i tell if my GC is an LX or just a run of the mill WK? from everything i've been reading LX does'nt mean SRT....

I do not believe there is an 'LX' jeep (other than the earlier 5.9L Limited LX Grand Cherokees of the late 90's). The LX platform is the RWD platform used for the Magnum, 300, and Charger. It just so happens that the hemi used in the LX platform has more upgrades than what is used with our Jeeps, but some of the parts can be exchanged. So, unless someone put LX manifolds on your jeep you don't have them.

Thank you for the explanation, that had been bugging me for a while. So where is a good place to start looking for a set of LX headers?

X2, but the LX's do have an all wheel drive version.....no control over it though. As Doc said, most everything on the engine is either the same or interchangeable....except the oil pan and oil pump pick up tube on the 2WD version going onto a 4WD WK. At least that's the only differences I've found so far. The exhaust manifolds on the Hemi LX are just a little better than the ones on the WK's...more efficient, with slightly bigger ports, a smoother (swept down and longer than the WK) flowing, and larger diameter collector. Only way you can tell if you have one is to measure the head pipe just behind the collector. It'll show evidence of "muffler shop welding" and will be at least 2 5/8- 2 3/4 " in diameter.

Only option is to fit either jeep srt headers or go crazy like i just did and go obx 6.1 long tubes. Which took me a few days to install and came out great. Places to look for used headers would be red site.. lx forums or ebay. Best of luck in your exhaust future.

Re: LX or just a std WK?

So I've found a set of used LX exhaust manifolds in perfect condition for a very reasonable $. What all am I looking at to mount these up? Obviously the connection to the the existing mid pipes will need to be altered, I have the option of buying the mids to go with the manis but they're off of an 07 Charger so they won't route properly. Should I cut my current cats off and have them welded back on to a larger dia. pipe to replace the mids? Or buy the Charger cats and use them? Should I look at replacing the muffler and resonator with a better flowing/less restrictive option? I'll never take this vehicle to the track or drag strip, it's my daily driver. I'm just looking to liven(hot rod) it up a little. I doubt I'll even put a tuner on, but we'll see...

Re: LX or just a std WK?

A good exhaust shop should be able to adapt your stock 5.7 "Y" pipe to the LX manifolds. Without going out and looking under mine, IIRC the mids. are a little smaller diameter on the LX than the WK, since the LX runs a true dual exhaust. If they're both the same in/out diameter, I'd also pick up the cats. for spares if nothing else. If they're not right, you could also sell them and maybe make a few bucks. As far as the install goes, I think they should bolt up without any modding. If you haven't seen the my thread on the manifold differences, here it is: A better exhaust system for the 5.7 WK?? Just looking at them side by side is what I base my assumption on. After the "Y" pipe I'd run 3 in. all the way, using a good 3 in. straight through muffler and resonator.
