Re: Mod Fever

Well, I've had my 06 WK GCO (52000 mi.) for 3 1/2 months and here's the list of things I've done to it so far. Some are simple R and R, others are a little tougher. Most of it was done in the first month after I got it. The wife told me to get it all done and then quit messing with it. Yeh, right!!

1. New tires and had them siped.
2. Four wheel alignment with wife and I in the car. (Best way to do it)
3. Trans. fluid (8 qts. ATF+4) and both filters changed. Will do it again at 60000 mi.
4. Replaced spark plugs (had never been changed) with NGK 5308's.
5. Changed engine oil/filter (Mobil 1 and M1-204 filter) Will do it again at 54000 mi.
6. Installed Fumoto Drain Valve. Quickoildrainvalve.com
7. Installed flashing high 3rd tail light.
8. Installed new rear hatch struts that work.
9. Installed MDS "ON" light.
10. Fixed driver's heated/auto dimming mirror.
11. Cleaned throttle body.
12. Installed Billet Technologies Catch Can.
13. Installed Napa Auto 190 degree thermostat.
14. Chopped EGR tube in intake manifold.
15. Made my own CAI and added second 3 in. inlet to airbox drawing air from behind grill.
16. Installed K and N drop-in filter.
17. Installed trailer hitch with 5 in. drop. Purchased trailer wire adapter plug.
18. Installed Airtab vortex generators front and back roof.
19. Installed cabin air filter.
20. Installed locking gas cap.
21. Installed Wheelskins steering wheel cover. (Does anyone else's wheel look like crap?)
22. Ordered and received shop manual on CD and hardcopy of Owner's and Nav. unit Manuals.
23. Purchased and set up Superchips tuner.
24. Installed winter slush/mud mats.
25. Shaved all emblems except "Overland". Makes it easier to clean.
26. Got connected to satellite radio.
27. Changed Nav. unit joystick.
28. Purchased Diablosport tuner and piggybacked it with Superchips tuner.
29. Purchased and installed DashHawk Vehicle Information Computer Readout.
30. Tinted front side windows and added windshield tint.
31. Had hood and rt. front fender repaired and repainted by one of my renters that owns a body shop. Cheaper that way. (rock chips and checking in several spots)

I'll take a break until Spring now. Then I'll probably do an exhaust system, and fine tune the CAI.

Re: Mod Fever

i've modded every vehicle i've ever owned(over 30 vehicles now). this was my last big project. bought new in 2003. f150 lariat fx4. msrp was $43,000 then. i spent 4 years modding it. i modded it so much i started modding the mods. i think i spent between $12-15,000 on mods alone. the truck only had 20,000 miles on it when i sold it and i only got $24,000 for it.

Re: Mod Fever

Man your story sound almost identical to mine. I hit a deer last fall with my ZJ and toltalled it. Went out afterwards and got the same Jeep you did....2005 GC Lim. 5.7l hemi. Once I started reading these forums two years ago I got the mod bug as well. My old jeep ZJ had a 4.0L engine that I extensively modified to squeeze every bit of power out of that engine I could as it was under powered. It turned into a hobby for me in the sense that I discovered that I could do alot of the mechanical work myself and I enjoyed the satifaction of completing each project. My wife however freaked out with each new expense and grumbled about the fact that these were unnecessary expenses. I hung in there though, pushed back, and she got tired of fighting with me over it. My new jeep doesn't need performance upgrades as the last one but I'm starting the mod "dance" again. Starting with HIDs!
