Mushy brakes

I have a question about my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Hemi. My brake pedal is really mushy. I mean when you first apply the brakes the pedal basically mushes thru something (?) then goes on down and actually grabs. It's a weird feeling that my 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo doesn't do. Any ideas on what may be wrong? I had the pads and rotors checked recently and they are all good.

Could be air in the system that needs to be bled or it could be the master cylinder/brake booster, but my bet is that you have air in the lines.

Re: Mushy brakes

yep, you have to bleed the air out of the system. air will compress but brake fluid will not.

Re: Mushy brakes

I was told this is the way the brakes are in Hemi powered Jeeps. Anyone with a Hemi in theirs have brakes like this?

Re: Mushy brakes

What does the brakes being the same matter on a Hemi equipped Jeep? My 2006 brakes don't feel this way. Does anyone with the Hemi have that mushy feeling as well?

Re: Mushy brakes

Dealer stated the brakes were normal for a Hemi equipped Jeep though. If there was something wrong with them why wouldn't they say? I would think they'd want the repair bill $$$ as well.

Re: Mushy brakes

then why start a thread if you already know the answer? mushy brakes=air in the lines, it has nothing to do with engine size.

Re: Mushy brakes

Because I wanted to know if someone who owns a "HEMI" has the same problem with the brakes. SO far you are the only one responding and you don't own a HEMI Jeep.

Re: Mushy brakes

you got air in the lines....go get a pump from autozone for like $30 bucks and some new brake fluid its really easy to do check out this link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake_bleeding

like he said above...engine size has nothing to do with brakes. It wouldn't matter if you had a hemi or not...a HEMI equipped Jeep means you have a jeep with a hemi engine thats all....why would it matter what type of engine you had when it comes to braking?

also... did you buy the jeep from the dealer which told you the brakes are normal? if the answer is yes then clearly they just dont want to bother with fixing it or you talked with someone who is partially retarded either or

anyways you can fix this problem with about $40 bucks and 2 hours of your time

Re: Mushy brakes

It would matter because the brake master cylinder/booster is different according to the dealer. No this Jeep didn't come from the dealer I took it to for service.
