My continuing delemma.....

So since last week I've been having problems with my truck running rough. I threw a P01411 code and recently a P0301 code. In the last couple of days I did a lot of research, talked to a few guys and finally came to the conclusion that we had to rip into the motor to replace the #1 cylinder lifters. Of course I'm going to replace all of them, cause I can't see just replacing onece set, especially when the motor has 112K on it. The inside of the motor is surprisingly clean. At least it looks like the previous owners changed the oil regularily. I really didn't want to have to open the motor without having the heads done and putting in a new cam, exhaust, etc, but I need to get this back on the road and I don't have the coin to drop into those mods right now.

A few pics.

Re: My continuing delemma.....

It's a shame you don't have the $$$ to do what you want. While the heads are off check out having .030 milled off to raise the compression to 10.3. That shouldn't be too expensive. Later you can change the cam and valve springs with the heads still on, if you're careful. I am hoping to do the cam/springs trick in a couple months without removing the heads. It's been a long time since I've done spring changes with the head on, but it wasn't too tough as I recall. I don't plan to mess with the heads unless I have a problem, but if I have to take them off for any reason I'll for sure have them milled.

Re: My continuing delemma.....

Its a pita to change those springs on the truck. I have a set of heads here from the last cam job we did so eventually I'll have them completely redone. I had also planned on looking for some take off srt exhaust headers so when I do the srt bumper conversion I'll be true srt all the way back. I also may be getting a 6.1 intake manifold if a good customer of mine goes with a MagnaCharger install. All things planned for the future, just hate having to half ass it now.

Re: My continuing delemma.....

Well all my parts are finally in and we will be putting the motor back together today. Hopefully replacing the lifters will solve my miss problem with the #1 cylinder. If it doesn't I'll be in deep trouble with my wife since I just spent a bunch of money on parts.

Re: My continuing delemma.....

So I figured while I had some of the motor apart I would at least try to clean it up a bit. I throughly cleaned the valve covers, shot them with an epoxy primer and them shot them in gloss black.

My plan is to continue to detail the engine as I go along.

Nah, I was going to change out the coils and covers for the 06 version but for now I just got the 05 parts. In the future, when I get the heads redone and swap in a cam I'll change things. I just spent a lot of money on the truck and parts, and just bought a set of chrome SRT reps and Parada tires. My wife said to cool it for a while, or there will be a throw down.....
