My SuperChips Flashpaq experience
I bought my 2006 GCO 5.7L 4x4 used, so I'm not sure if it had the stock settings before I purchased it or whether the previous owner had it programed with something other than stock. I purchased the SC Flashpaq because I wasn't happy with my transmission. The vehicle always shifted at the wrong time and when it down shifted, it'd often shift down 2 gears instead of one because the pedal was so sensitive.
That being said, I purchased the SC Flashpaq for my vehicle and tried the 93 octane tune, 87 octane tune, and the efficient fuel economy tune. I didn't like any of them. The transmission was extremely aggressive and my mpg decreased from 14.5mpg to 11.5-12.5mpg. I didn't care too much about the mpg... it's still a 5.7L at the end of the day. However, the aggressive transmission annoyed me because it's a Jeep, not a z06. I will say one thing though, the 93 octane tune was nice for offroading in low gear. The low gear shifting was much much smoother.
After being unsatisfied with the pre-tuned options, I purchased the transmission tuning mod for the extra $40. I played around with the shift points. I tried 10-12 different combos and I still couldn't get it right. I tried several of the suggested schedules from another forum (I'm too lazy to check the rules and see if posting other forums is allowed on here... but it was the forum SC recommended to go to for shift schedules) that has hundreds of pages of data on them. It was still way too shifty and had horrible mpg.
At this point, I wanted to go back to the stock settings because I felt the stock settings were much smoother and less aggressive than anything I could program with the SC Flashpaq. After switching back to the stock settings, my transmission felt perfect. It felt much better than any of the tunes I tried out and it felt much better than the "stock" transmission I had before. Now remember, I bought my vehicle used, so I'm not sure if it was running stock before. However, after feeling how nice the ride was, I called SC and asked them how it could be better than what I originally had. They told me that the "stock tune" shift schedule on their module puts the vehicle back to the stock 2007 WK 5.7L settings. Apparently the 2007 settings differ from the 2006 settings. I didn't ask them if they differed from 05, 08, 09, 10 settings, so this is where other members who have interest in this would need to do further research.
I still use the 93 octane tune for offroading, but other than that, I keep it on a stock setting. I'm very happy with the performance.
I'd highly recommend buying the SC Flashpaq to anybody with a 2006 WK 5.7L 4x4 (not sure if the 4x4 matters), who wants a more luxurious transmission feel for their vehicle.
