Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

Paul can certainly speak for himself but if you purchase a used Jeep, there ain't much you can do about how the previous owner maintained the vehicle.

Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

That's true, when I purchased my 2005 it had 46K on it and the first thing I did was do the maintenance. Changing trans fluid, plugs, diffs, TC etc. I didn't trust how the previous owner may or may not have maintained it.

I do the same with every Jeep I purchase. Simply can't afford the initial depreciation on a new Jeep.

I sold my WJ. I do regret selling it because I got a great deal on a Stroker Kit for it. But I found a great deal on my WK. One day I will get another one

I'm just a bit anal on being on time. It needed the plugs changed anyway. I like new plugs .

07' WK - 65k miles
09' GT - 12k miles

At 100k miles, a Jeep is just starting to get broke in, 200k is getting old and once you cross 250k, a replacement ought to be appearing on the radar.

We're riding with the same miles/year on the WK..

My '98 Mustang is a different story.. I think its up to 120k and the tranny is starting to slip.

Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

Dont get me wrong i dont Think 85k is HIGH Mileage for Jeep I just really likes having a Jeep with under 70k on it.

My first Jeep to current.

1987 Cherokee XJ Pioner Dad bought it at 83k in 91, 250k 4.0 I6 (sold engine to go in a friends xj at 250k)
1994 Cherokee XJ Country 4.0 HO I6 bought with 148k drove for a few years at 183k Sold the XJ and it made it well over 230k
1995 Cherokee XJ Sport 4.0 HO I6 Bought at 152k, sold after a year at 164k, its still going
1998 Cherokee XJ Sport 2 Door 4.0 HO I6 Bought at 100k even, Sold it after 3 years with 130k, and its still going.
2005 Grand Cherokee WK 4.7 V8, Bought at 62k, Now at 85k in under 2 years.

Ive had my share of high mileage jeeps, i just really liked having LOW Miles.

Those are just the ones ive owned personally, thats not including my friends jeeps ive worked on. 01 XJ Sport bought with 30k, not at 75k, 93 Grand Cherokee ZJ 4.0 I6 bought at 221k still going, 97 TJ sport, bought at 97k still going, 04 TJ bought at 60k still going, and a few others.

Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

My wife's 05 WK (Limited 4.7) just hit 90k, was debating selling her (jeep, not wife) but hard to take on $25,000 more debt right now for a new jeep (10k for trade minus 35k for new jeep Laredo). Jeep does a lot of stop and go in town for first 60k but now wife is doing 70 miles roundtrip commute and racking up the miles. Recently spent 4 hours with orbital buffer getting rid of spider webs and small scratches, looks great now, although lots of chips on front section of hood I noticed. Would have been worth getting a chip guard in retrospect. Noticed 2-3 very very small sections where rust bubble coming from under paint on roof. These are less than 1/3 size of a dime so really small, I'll sand down and touch up these sections before winter.

Not too many issues so far, although we had a delay going from reverse into first which was repaired under warranty around 65k (thank god for the 70 k transmisson warranty in 05!) . Ended up being a bad gear from what I recall, cost about $150 out of pocket because they required I do a transmission fluid/filter change before they would diagnose as a non-maintenance issue. Dealer gave me a few free oil changes becuase I complained so cost was actually less than $150

Otherwise only minimal repairs; has needed two ignitions (from lots of short trips and many starts I assume), replaced front brake pad and rotors at 60k and rears 68k. replaced temp guage twice (second time was under warranty for first replacement), due for third set of tires (each set lasted 45k), replaced plugs at 70k and did almost all required maintenance. Although needs differential and transfer case fluids changed (embarrassed to say its never been done). Once I pay for that, I'm looking to get new Firestone Destination AT's and possibly new bilsteins.

Last time in dealer said there was some rust issues on oil pan due to New England winters, not an issue now but could be in the future. Dealer said it would cost 650-800 replace- ouch. Anyone know a solution for that- can I paint it to stop rust?

Hopefully, I'll keep this for at least 3 more years when my daughter gets her permit. Perfect car for a teenager- poor gas mileage so she won't drive all over town and big enought to protect her.

Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

Glad to hear you are having such good luck with your WK. I am in nh and though it has some under body rust the rust issues are not really issues yet. What oil pan where they saying has rust? The engine oil pan is plastic on the WK.

I am having a good friend of mine take a day and give the paint a really good correction, i have lots of swirl marks and light scratches that i want gone. Mine also has alot of rock chips up front.

I am due for a trans service and both diffs and t case. I will do the diffs and t case myself but the trans i will have the dealership do most likely. so far everything else seems to be doing well though i dont know how much was done to my wk as far as maintenance before i bought my wk. I would also like to bring it to the dealership soon and get any updates done that it might need.

I did plugs this past summer and my serp belt seems to be doing just fine, temp is running good as well so we will see over the next few years what else she will need. But what ever she needs she will get, i hope for this thing to last me a good long time.

Re: My Wk is getting OLD. sad face

I have some light rust in the Rear where you can see those two big beams underneathe the Jeep. I sanded them and put some stuff to remove the rust and then painted them black. I only put one coat though. I need to do it over again because it's peeling just a bit.

Same here, that rear "sub frame" is the worst part under my jeep as far as rust goes.
