Need A Little Advice

Hello
I'm a Honda driver, And recently i had problems with my car to the point where im thinking to sale it.
I said to myself let me jump off the Honda wagon and get a used jeep.
I have a 1998 Honda accord, And i know that they came with bad trannys.
http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/sh...ight=cont+saga

So just wanted to know if the WK had any type problems.

Also
I live in NYC, And theirs a lot of stop and go traffic, Potholes, Gas is pretty expensive out here.
I was thinking to get a used 05 WK 6 cyl with 50,000 - 70,000.
What do u guys think.

Thanks

Re: Need A Little Advice

I'd say if you can go for 08+ only cause the front end is the newer style bumper and headlights. But there's nothing wrong with the prior year models. I have an 09 limited. I don't have 4lo so it's just straight AWD. I love it. I've gone offroading with no problem. I average on the HWY doing steady 60-65mph 23mpg's, city about 16-17mpg So IMO if you're not going to do any mods for offroading and you're going to use it for what it is I'd go with a 3.7l 6cyl (Limited or larado)

If you like speed and plan on doing performance mods I'd go with the 4.7 v8, or 5.7 HEMI. The 4.7 gets slightly less milage than the 3.7 just the 4.7 has the flex fuel option where you can use the e85 ethanol fuel.

The HEMI 5.7 is a beast and there's lots you can to to tune and tweak them the way you like with intake, exhaust, tune, chip, etc...

All models you can do the same visual and electrical mods for the most part, just a matter of power vs fuel economy.

Re: Need A Little Advice

I sold my Honda (well, Acura) to get a Jeep ('04 WJ), not because of problems but for practicality. I had a lowered, turbo'd Integra and it was def a fun little car but it wasn't practical. Not being able to go anywhere in the snow sucked...

Anyway, there aren't any major problem areas that I know of. If you're looking to go older, I'd shoot for an '06. As a general rule of thumb it's usually a good idea to avoid the first model-year. Are there trouble-free '05s? Of course. Some people just recommend a year later in case there are any minor bugs that need to be worked out.

I now have an '09 and love it. Like Nate said, the HEMI is a beast

Yeah, if you're concerned about mileage (city), then the Jeep is probably not your best bet. Not that it's terrible, imo, for what it is, but it adds up and if you don't use or need/want the practicality, then I would look for something else (only reason I got this was for the 4x4 and practical side of it; otherwise, I had much more power and mileage in my GTO and it was alittle more fun to drive )

Anyway, have you considered an AWD car/wagon, like a subaru, etc.? Being you're in NY, guess you have to deal with weather (we don't have that here )

Re: Need A Little Advice

gas mileage is sucky even on the 3.7's... i get 11-12 mpg locally, bc lots of stop and go just like you in nyc.

on the positive side - you aren't stranded when it snows!!!

X2. You'll soon learn to love and appreciate those MPGS. Plus as they say, JEEP > Snow

Re: Need A Little Advice

not necessarily just the v8s have moon roofs though, its just common cause most v8s offered from jeep are limited, overland,RockyMountain,SRT, etc. you can get v6 Laredos with both a moonroof and sunroof. just a moon roof is quite common in just a base model laredo. ive seen both of the two in laredos- both moon and sunroof.

Re: Need A Little Advice

Seeing your coming from a Honda, I'd say you'd definitely want to go with a 5.7 Hemi since your still gonna want some performance. If you want to kick it up a notch and turn it into a street eating beast, I'd recommend the SRT-8. I wish I got that now that I am getting a dedicated trail rig. I'd use that in the snow, and use the SRT-8 for everyday driving. Also I would guess the SRT-8 won't do half bad in the snow if you get a set of winter tires for it.

As for the trim packages, get a Limited or higher, the added features are a nice touch.
