He bought it certified used, so there is a warranty. The info in the posts above seems to imply otherwise regarding the lemon law requirements. If I were him, I would research it some more.

Correct, certified used, as well as 60 day/3k miles. I've owned the vehicle for more than 60 days now, and its been driven about 3k miles. Dealer is still dealing with the issue because in the time i've owned it, its been in my possesion about 21 days and 2k miles, the rest of the miles and days has been in there possesion, they are not taking any of that within there warrenty. Also, they've assured me, since there is a paper trail, it'd still be covered under warrenty as the issues began just when i got the car.

dont even go there andrew/ my POST would be considered 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' and MOST dealers forgot what that is since they have a captive audience/
See, I didnt even say anything and it was still taken the wrong way *cant win*

I give away ALOT of money to go the extra mile above and beyond most of the other techs I work with. When I have a student working with me I spend ALOT of time talking about the importance of making repairs look like a dealer repair and not some hack job rippin and tearin and slapping dirty crap back together, even if it means spending time your not getting paid for to spray and scrub something down so the leak evidence is gone, I feel that stuff is important.

So feel how you want about all dealer techs, I was simply going to point out the cant win aspect of your first comment about it being a "common problem" and "unacceptable". If the ignition switch was replaced and it didnt fix it the tech would just be slandered by you for being a parts jockey, throwing more parts at the car. What some customers dont understand is when you have a very intermittant problem, I dont have every waking minute to work on duplicating your concern, I will spend 15-20 minutes here and there (above and beyond my initial hour), occationally if I really cannot get it to do it ill ask to drive it home so my continuing free diagnosis is now on my free time instead of time not making money at work... But at the end of the day your anger towards the dealers lack of customer service is the same thing you and others bitch about parts being thrown at a car and not fixing it.

At the end of the day just like in ANY profession there are some that make the rest look bad, and unfourtunatly because the dealer charges more than anyone else on the block even though the indy shops are far from perfect too, the dealer is burned at the stake. Rightfully so, one reason I work on cars is because I could not afford to pay to have mine fixed, let alone pay someone a lot of money to not fix it.

You either appreciate what a dealer can do your you hate em, We know your stance and I would NEVER argue right or wrong. But hows about before you go slandering the bunch of em you realize that there are are people flipping burgers than cannot get an order right and fortune 500 companies run into the ground on poor decisions... no one is perfect.

Furthermore, specfically slandering myself whom comes home and spends time giving free advice and insite that I am paying my school loans and thousands anually to tools to be able to do this job quickly and efficiently, again, for free, not sure if I said that yet. I have been doing this here for over a year now and not once asked for anything in return, and when I am offered compensation I direct it to the forum. I am not starting now either, I am just in awe that your so quick to generalize me and throw me under the bus when ALL you have seen of me is that I give hard earned information away for free. But thanks champ Nothing like leaving a crappy career (freight shipping) to make 15 grand a year less and be generalized as a non caring parts swapper.

BTW, Sorry this techs crystal ball was not functioning properly.

Re: need advice - dealer issues

Good Answer 2005JGC. I have worked at a dealership for 40 years and done my share of free work to get a vehicle fixed right. We do not build the vehicle but we sure get treated like low lifes if we make a mistake or don't find the problem the first time. I would like to go to the job site with some of the people and give them them the same treatment that we get. I am sure they don't work for free and have thousands of dollars invested in tools. At the end of the day they leave their nice office and go home. We should not judge everyone by what happens in a few cases.
