New Jeep owner, oil level too high after 5 Liters

Hello,

I recently bought a used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 liter model. The vehicle had a broken dipstick so I purchased a new one. The new one like the old, showed the same oil level but not revealed a couple inches high of the "safe zone" markings on the new dipstick. I went for an oil change and noted the marking after adding 5 liters. The marking was still a couple inches above the safe zone marking. However, the owners manual indicates oil capacity of 5.7 liters.

Same part number is displayed on the dipstick. I have driven the vehicle so a couple of days since the change and still shows same high level. Also, the oil pan appears fine, no deformation or dents.

Any advice on what may be the issue?

Thanks

Matt

Jeep seems to have an issue with producing dip sticks that read properly. There are tsbs out to change dip sticks on later model grand cherokees and cherokees because they were wrong. Not sure about your year but i would not be surprised.

If you have verified everything is stock then i would suggest doing another oil change put in the exact amount the manual/service manual calls for(verify you are reading the latest revision, on the 2014 it had 8 editions, crazy) and mark your dipstick with a full mark. I would not trust that some shop put the right amount in i would do it myself.
I experianced similar with my 2014 GC 5.7. Dip stick was 1 quart wrong, jeep came out with a new dipstick and issued the TSB on it. Good luck

Re: New Jeep owner, oil level too high after 5 Liters

Silvermax,

I did make a trip to the dealership today and did discover the part number of the original and the new one from the auto parts store were both incorrect. 40 days for a new one to be shipped from the US but will be back there in May with the correct part number in hand and can pick up for myself

I made sure I was there when they added the oil to see for myself and we checked after 5 liters when it appeared to be over-filled. I can probably now safely add another 0.5 liters with the understanding that I was given the wrong replacement dipstick for my 2006 model.

Thanks

Matt
