New to forum and looking for HID info

Just bought an 05 hemi, very happy with it, and reading on how alot of you guys have installed HID light to your GC. I am won over and am going to do the same. As I'm a "do it right the first time guy" I am thinking of going the Xenon Depot route. My mechanical skills are quite good but am leary of electrical. My questions are; can these kits be installed easy enough using the instructions that come with these kits? ...what lights should I convert...dims and fogs or dims, high beams and fogs and what are the benefits of both? Which lights do the $200 kits from Xenon cover of these? Is there much splicing necessary? As you can tell my knowledge of these lights is limited. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

i have done lows and fogs. high beams are not really necessary. they are very simple and the site has several how to instruction pages.
How To: 6k HID's Lows/Fogs on an 08 WK
Matt's HID Installation Thread
HOW TO install HID fogs

the kit will only cover the low beams. you will need a separate kit for the fogs.

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

From what I've heard Xenon Depot are the best and you get what you pay for.

There are plenty of write-ups on the forum on how to install. Just search for HID install or something like that. No splicing necessary. It's all plug and play.

I think most people replace their lows and fogs. HIDs require a little time to warm-up and it's not good to keep turning them on and off (like you would with high beams). Turning them on and off decreases the lifespan of the bulbs and ballasts.

The Xtreme kits from Xenon Depot will have everything you need for the installation.

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

go with the xenondepot kit, i would suggest a 4300K kit, or 5000K

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

i personally went with the bajahd kit only because it was $160 for both 5000k lows and 3000k fogs which was less than half of what it would have cost with xenon depot and bajahd comes with a lifetime warranty. am i expecting them to last forever? definately not but they will most likely last for the next 4 years that i have this jeep, so it was better for me to get the cheap kit.

One thing good about the Xtreme kits is they are sealed. I had the baja kit and noticed water was getting inside the ballast

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

Thanks for this feedback! I'll do the lows and fogs and if it's plug and play then there really isn't too much I could crew up......I think!?

Just make sure you have a good ground(somewhere on the frame). That is usually the biggest problem people have.

Have you considered buying used OEM '08+ HID headlights?

What are the benefits of doing this and where could I find used 08 ones? Is the swap an easy one?

Well, I have a set for sale lol but there's a broken tab on each. It's an easy fix though if you cannibalize a tab from your existing headlights.

It's a direct bolt-in swap and the output will be MUCH better than if you just put HIDs in halogen reflectors. You will need to make or buy a wiring harness though. It's really easy to make one.

I got these when I had an '07 but ended up getting an '09 with HIDs before I started the swap. I was going to see if the '07 lens would fit the '09 housing, that way there wouldn't be that little gap in the bumper.

Right now the headlights are apart because I was going to paint the chrome bezels semi-gloss black. If you're interested I can leave the lenses off if you want to try a lens swap or whatever.

Re: New to forum and looking for HID info

Thanks but I think I will try the Xenon kit with my existing lights as the "plug and play" feature of the install sounds more within my ability. But thanks for the info!
