Lightbulb New to Jeep Garage! Need advice/help!

Even all,

I'm new here I have been "forum" creeping for a good amount of the day trying to gain my pairings with "Jeep talk" Earlier this month I lost my 2008 Acura TL Type S lady ran a red light and TBoned me on the drivers side...

Needless to say it left me carless and luckily I walked away from this! It was pretty bad crash... I have been trying to decided on a vehicle and I believe I want to pickup a 05-07 JGC. Limited 5.7 or 4.6. I really loved my car and all but I was limited to "ROAD" only, I am a truck guy at heart but just cant seem to swing the cost right now... "Budget is roughly 15-20k. Iv been looking around and the 05-07 seem to fall into that range.

With that said, I am wondering what I should be worried or not worried about? I know Jeeps are awesome off-road vehicles and will last me a long time! I have to have a four door because I have kids, and I enjoy the great out doors, so this should allow me to get back out on some trails on my free time! (I cant express how excited that thought makes me)

I found a jeep at a local dealer close to me (2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Overland)

Price$16,815
Mileage78,135Body StyleSport UtilityExterior ColorBright Silver MetallicInterior ColorDark Khaki/Lght GraystoneEngine8 CylinderTransmission5 Speed Shiftable AutomaticDrive Type4 wheel drive - rearFuel TypeGasolineDoorsFour Door

looking at KBB this seems to be an "OK" price... does anyone think I can do better or should try to knock them down? I will be taking a look at the Jeep in person tomorrow afternoon.

Needless to say, I am a very active car/truck owner and enjoy modding/upgrading my toys (so to speak) but ultimately I am looking to drop my old HIGH payments and just enjoy something for the out doors again... I use to own a 2006 Ford F150 but had to sell due to GAS and my job 4years ago...

Don't think the 5.7 will worry me any as my work is only 18-miles from home "Round trip".

Here are some photos of the jeep I am interested in.

Also, does anyone know who owns this jeep here?

Really like a few things he did here.

Thanks in advanced guys! Hopefully I will be calling this forum "home" for a "newish" Jeep in my future

Ditched the F-150 due to gas, yet looking at a Jeep. Hope that's not a big criteria in deciding. Needless to say I love my Jeep and as long as I don't have to travel a long way for work once I'm out of college, I hope to have mine till it dies.

Is that the 5.7? I have 4.7, but I think Hemi is the way to go.

And welcome!

I would try and go 2008 and up. There was a refresh for the 0$-10 vehicles and a lot of nice improvements. Check out wkjeeps.com for info.

I looked at the differences, truthfully there isn't to many to be worried about, nor needed. Now had it been 6 inches longer for more comfort / room, that would sell me! But my price range isn't really high enough unless I got a 2WD and that just wont do for a jeep

I appreciate the feed back! Waiting on the bank now, JOY!

I tend to disagree. There are not only cosmetic changes but ECM, PCM and CanBus changes in the 08+ vehicles. They address a significant amount of internal quality issues regarding the 05-10 IMO worth spending a few extra dollars. On a quick search there are a lot of 2008 vehicles in your price range across the country.

Hmm, all the searches I come up with are close to 20k range I really want to avoid a payment higher than $250. With the 07 I am going to see if I can get them to accept $14k out the door, will be a rough sell but should put me right where I want. Otherwise I will walk.

The ECM/ other computer changes that big I'd notice?

I plan on most likely off-roading it a lot as well.

Thanks for the feed back I appreciate it!

Chris

Not as much as you would notice as it was a general update to the entire vehicle inside and out. They fixed a lot of QC issues and hardware/software failures on the 05-07.

Wow what a beauty. Anyone know where those stripes on the side were purchased from? Would love to get them in red.
