New to me Jeep

Hey guys,

I just traded in my 07 BMW for a Grand Cherokee limited, and let me tell you, I love it! It rides great, and is so smooth. I'm just wondering on what if anything I should do with it, maintenance wise. I bought it with 90k, and I figure it should go a long ways. We've had Jeeps before, and just loved them, beside the early 90's one..
The only thing I feel with it, is that I seem to have to let off the gas to let it shift, it's not terrible, at all, but it seems like it just needs that little bit to finally shift, or it likes to hold rpms. Would new transmission fluid possibly fix this? It is also cold, it's been in the low to mid twenties, so that may be it as well, and also it's only when accelerating somewhat slowly onto higher speed roads.

Any input would be much appreciated, have a good day all!

Ian

Re: New to me Jeep

Do you have the maintenance history of the jeep? Which engine/transmission does it have?

Re: New to me Jeep

So when the maintenance history is not known and you want to keep the jeep for a while, you could better start with a clean sheet and change all oils/fluids.
Engine oil and filter, air filter. (Maybe the plugs, but i would pull one out first to check the condition), differential fluid, T case fluid, transmission fluid with both filters, engine coolant and brake fluid.
The transmission is a 5-45RFE. Normally not a problem maker, as long as preventive maintenance is done in time.

Re: New to me Jeep

Times 2 on what Frank said. How many miles on it? In cold weather the transmission shift schedules are moified and it will hold gears longer until it warms up. This is normal. In cold weather it may take 25-30 miles to get it to full operating temperature, but the shift schedules should get back to normal before that. IMO, the factory shift schedules and torque management settings leave a lot to be desired. I am using my own schedules and torque management settings and it works much better for my purposes.

It has 90k on it. I'll have to start with some of those preventive maintenances on it soon! Thanks for the input!
