Next upgrade opinions!

Ok so i have a '05 5.7 with 135,000 miles. Runs great!! Did the exhaust with 3" back and a flowmaster. I'm debating on going with a CAI or a programmer next. Any opinions?

I plan on lifting the jeep when I can save up some more money as the suspension seems to be failing (needs shocks and struts). No sure how big I plan on going or what system yet. But I figured I'd run it for a while as I have some time yet and just had new tires put on from the dealer during time of sale.

I guess performace then suspension is my plan of attack. All opinions and recommandations welsome!!

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

Suspension upgrades; by far the best mod for the WK, and will make a huge difference in ride and handling over the poor stock setup. Aftermarket catback exhaust is probably the worst bang for the buck, just makes more noise with very little in power gains. A CAI will add power (est 14-18 hp), and a CMR tune will help drivability a lot, and squeeze out many more ponies.

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

What do you recommend would be the next best step? CAI or a tune? What is a CMR tune?

Also what do you recommend for suspension upgrades?

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

I would fix what is worn out first, then think about modding after that. NEw tires with a worn out suspension won't last very long either. The stock WK shocks are very poor and with so many miles are the next thing to replace. Most go with WK Bilsteins; I'm ordering the Koni FSD's later this month which are about twice the cost, but probably 4x as good in terms of smooth ride and better performance. An srt8 rear sway bar tightens up the rear for beter handling. Unless the previous owner replaced them, front sway bar bushings and end links are shot with as many miles as you have. Mine were shot at under 50k and I barely go offroad.

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

yea, i would save up/fix your suspension issues by upgrading to some srt8 bilsteins and some Bwoody springs v2.0 since they come with bumpstops but that just my opinion

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

I'm not wanting to lower the jeep, if anything lift it! The srt8 parts lower the vehicle, correct? I'll have to look into upgradeing the sway bars. But if i'm going to be replacing all the struts/shocks and bushings, wouldn't it be a prime to through a lift kit under the jeep?

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

Now thinking about. I kind of left this thread open ended. I'm not going to worry about suspension as the PO had kept up on replacement parts and preventative maintence.

My questions were more geared towards the performance aspect of modding a WK. I've been reading many people say that the muffler/exhaust seems to be a waste unless one is looking for sound (which I was).

Would an CAI setup be more beneifical then the a tuner at this point? I seem to be doing a lot of highway driving latly so I'm looking for a few more MPGs (who isn't). But at the same time I'm all about having a hemi!

I know some people probably wonder why I would want to drop money into a high milage WK but I got a good deal on it and it seems to be running pretty decent right now! Not really sure how long these engines/powertrain last but I guess I can find out. thanks for the ideas so far guys! It's hard to find support for modding the WK. Not like the cj/yj/tjs I'm use to playing with!

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

CAIs have no effect on MPGs based on your milage i would save money for all the repairs you are going to be needing in the next few months.

Re: Next upgrade opinions!

Why is everyone assuming I'm going to need to save money for repairs? Is there something I don't know about a jeep that hit 140,000 and everything falls aprt?

its not a brand known for quality, most of the components are only designed for 100k miles.
