No EGR valve on REMAN engine

I have a reman 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 liter long block that does not have an EGR hole or threads on the driver's side head like the busted engine I'm replacing.

Here's my question:
Can I use this "egr-less" cylinder head and bypass the egr? I plan on putting a plate over the hole in the intake manifold, and leaving the egr sensor plugged into the wiring harness. Will this work? Will I have issues with codes? will it run bad? Honestly, I would rather run without an EGR if I can.

thank you!
jeff

Re: No EGR valve on REMAN engine

btw. new to site. My wife's truck is 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.7 4wd. This completely stock engine let go with 54,000 well maintained miles on it. Need help getting it back on the road.... this egr question is the only thing holding me up at this point.

Re: No EGR valve on REMAN engine

you cant delete the egr without a custom tune.....and the 3.7 has 0 hand held tuners. You will have to make a call to B&G performance and see if they can do a custom tune for you to your ecu....or return the engine for one with an EGR port.

Re: No EGR valve on REMAN engine

any ideas how it will run without an EGR and a proper tune? simple answer is all I'm looking for.... better? worse? sluggish? more or less efficient?

Generally speaking, running with EGR means your engine is more spark tolerant (recirculated exhaust gases cools down the combustion chamber), i.e. you can bump up the spark advance schedule which results in better fuel economy. This also means if you use the same engine computer and not install the EGR, you may experience spark knock and your knock sensor system will try to reduce spark advance which will result in worse FE (plus your check engine light will turn on).

If the engine is properly calibrated, there should be no perceived difference on how the engine runs, it will just affect your FE.
