Outer CV boot repair

Anybody have suggestions on repairing/replacing a torn right front outer cv boot? It seems most just replace the entire half-axle. Is there a good discount parts supplier online? Rockauto only has "send your axle in and we return it fixed 2-3 weeks later".

Even the dealers around here don't have the axle...

they got good prices. if it was in stock, you'll have it soon.

my question if you see this: what about the boot. was it available standalone? or is so much trouble just change the shaft and be done with it?

the manual shows the outer, that dont look bad, the ineer looks like a pain as you need to take the whole thing apart...... just curious, not challenging or anything like that.

$60-70 for a boot, plus you have to take apart the inner cv joint to do the outer boot, plus crap may have gotten into the outer cv joint. OTOH $250 for a brand new axle and it's a no-brainer swapout. I could have opted for either route, and although the axle replacement is a bit more money, it's less hassle, 100% success. They are shipping out tomorrow.
