ok, I have an 05 limited, my steering wheel looks like shit. Some time ago I found an 06 overland wheel on ebay for a couple hundred. well I immediately found out the wood grain and color is off. So I have been trying to get all the trim parts with a little effort as possible: ebay, forums.
well I have 3 parts: wheel, drivers side switch and center console top part. The window just came in to day and I think it may be wrong. It is definatly not real wood, it came off and 06 commander. take a look and let me know if this is right.
For what I see I can see that the Window Switch Wood grain came off of a Limited WK. The steering wheel and the A/C control woodgrain look just about the same.
I think you need to limit your search to an Overland from the same year as the wheel and center panel. I think they change the wood grain often, and the Overland is the only one with real wood.
my 05 limited is wood, I think. at least it looks it compared to that commander part I got from lkq. As to it being from a limited, there is no way unless the commander limited had different wood. the limited wood is darker and has a stripped wood pattern. The listing said it was from a 06 commander, is it possible that it was from a 08+. When checking just for jeeps it says look under grand cherokee for trim parts.
the other thing is that it was a chryco date of july 2005?
Also, the wheel was from a 06 grand cherokee and the center console was from a 06 commander.
ok further update: there are many trim levels??? I checked and there are 3 different woods; the wk wood (window switch above), Limited (Not Pictured) and the overland. there are also diff types of non wood. Who knew
ok now I am real confused. j4j.com says the wk wood trim is the SAME as the limited, but the parts in my wk look nothing like it. will ad pic in a min
The one that is not attached is a "burl", and the installed one is probably called Zebrano, or something similar. Maybe there's nomenclature in the order that will help you to match what you want.
Limited wood is different than Overland wood. Limited wood is fake plastic. Overland wood is real and thus why it costs so much more. I'll take the wheel if you don't want it.
cain45, I know. My wheel looks like shit and I am trying to peice all the overland parts together without going to J4J and paying a grand for the parts I need. I can't give you an estimated time on when I will give up my quest. But if I do, you will be the first to know.
Do any of the specialty wood kit manufacturers have anything that comes close to the wheel that you have? It would give you an avenue other than the Mopar parts.
The Commander uses a totally different style of wood. The only model to have REAL wood is the Overland. BUT i dont think the Overland Wk and Overland XK use the same wood.
The have a wood vineer on them. hence whey they are crazy money.
I want to do all of this to my WK as well but its just too expensive.
None of the Commander wood grains will match, none of the 08 + wk parts will match either. Stick to Wk Overland Parts from 2005 to 2007.
As far as the WK goes, there is the Limited wood, which you already have and the Real wood Overland wood. The wood grain style changes in 08 for both limited and Overland.
I tried PM reply, got an error message telling me that I need 10 posts before I can reply. So, these parts are for sale. Steering wheel 180.00 plus ship, Window and console pieces together 180.00 plus ship. I'm leaving town for the weekend and can send pics if you're interested when I return.
I think he already has a steering wheel so i am gonna throw it out there. What color is the leather on the steering wheel? If its khaki i would like to buy it.
As long as it is Khaki or light graystone i will take it. i can dye the light graysone. But if its any form of gray like the one pictured above in this thread i have no interest in it.
hey wired I will take the wood peices less the wheel. send me an email: michaelbloomberg@prodigy.net. send me some pics and I will send payment, your the best bro!
