P0513 05 Grand cherokee

So my jeep will randomly start and die. It runs for about 3 seconds , sounds like it has no gas and just stalls. When it happens the dtc report says p0513. The aftermarket remote usually stops working too,the lights don't come on. I can reconnect by turning the ignition 5 times but that doesn't make her start. I tried disconnecting the battery and it wouldn't even start for the 3 seconds after I did that.

The mechanic put a new fuel pump in and it was working for a week before it needed to be towed again. I asked him to scan the car and he had a new key made. It still didn't start, and he had another key guy verify it was made correctly and the code was right. They had it towed to the dealership, technically it was at a body shop because I was rear ended , and they thought the car not starting was part of that and that's why I got a fuel pump.

The dealer called and said they can't find the issue because the car has started fine the 3 days it was there and until its completely broken they won't touch it. That it could be electrical ,fuel or the fob. But he suggested I don't by a new fob. Wth? They are doing the ignition recall currently.

Last time I had it towed, it started the minute the guy dropped it. I left work, stopped at 7-11 and it died 2 mins from house. It wasn't even running for 10 minutes. 2 min tow to my house...dumbest breakdown ever.

I don't know if this is related, but after about an hour or so of driving sometimes the idle drops real low if I'm in traffic or moving under 20mph and it will sometimes stall, putting in neutral quick keeps it running.

Has anyone else had this problem or any ideas? I love my jeep and she runs great besides this issue. Its 05 Laredo with a 4.7.

It could be a ground/wiring issue, but you mentioned an aftermarket remote, so I have to ask if you have some sort of aftermarket remote start/alarm system in your car? Those are known to cause all kinds of issues.

It does have autostart and an alarm. I don't know if that's aftermarket or the fob is just a replacement. I bought it used with all that in there. The dealership was useless and wouldn't even look because it started after the tow dropped it and it "isn't broke enough yet" they did do the ignition recall.

Is there anyway to tell if it's aftermarket? Or pull a fuse or anything to disable the alarm?
I do notice a really loud hum is missing when it happens.

This could be an intermittently failing "antennae" that reads the chip in the key when you insert it in the ignition switch. The part is a coil that mounts around the ignition switch but I don't know the name of the part.😒

Well I did get the ignition replaced. Not sure if that counts. It was going good till yesterday. After searching Goole like a maniac, I found a wireless ignition module. But
Now after someone tried jumping the fuel pump ,it only half cranks with the auto start. I went from starting for three seconds ,to crank no start, to this weirdness. So maybe it's complete lockout.
I'll Probably have it towed to a diff dealership and see what happens. There is a recall for that part on 2007 and up. Go figure.

Im really starting to hate this Jeep.

Re: P0513 05 Grand cherokee

Sounds like it may be a problem with the Wireless Control Module (WCM), also known as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (Skreem) or the circuitry for the system. The stealer (for sure) or any other shop with a decent computerized scanner should be able to check the status of it, tell how many keys are programmed to it, and whether they're working properly. Here's a little info. on the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that you are receiving:

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0513

Hope you can find out what is going on. Keep us posted on your progress.

I thought I HAD to go to the dealer! That describes my problem. Seems the more you mess with it ,the worse it gets. I called the compustar autostart people and he said STOP TURNING THE KEY. too late 50 turns in... So that's my plan, wcm, new key and fob and have the compustar crap taken out.
I hadn't realized the fob acts like the key and it's a cheesy one that is falling apart.

Thank everyone for the ideas, hopefully this is it! Keep you posted,im sure someone else will need the fix if this is it.

Re: P0513 05 Grand cherokee

Before you go buy a WCM and have it programmed, make sure you have a good factory or equivalent fob. The early factory fobs had a problem with the battery holder solder joints separating, causing the fob to be intermittant or not work at all. I've had problems with both my 05 Hemi LX and 06 Hemi WK. Fortunately I've been able to resolder the bad spots and it has worked ever since. Once the solder joint comes loose you also may not be able to use any of the key functions......door lock/unlock, trunk/tail gate lock/unlock, panic mode, or ignition. I once had it happen on my 05 at the store and fortunately my wife had her fob so we could get home. Otherwise we'd have been totally dead in the water and would have required a tow. I guess in worst case, if possible, you could take the fob apart and try to make the connection and get it to run to get you home.

In any case, do the easy, less expensive stuff first before you spring for a new WCM. If you can first get it checked to make sure it is good and find out how many fobs are programmed into it, that would be good. The part, install, and programming can be costly. If you already have two known good fobs you can program a new fob yourself. The only thing that might stop you is if there are too many fobs already programmed into the WCM (I think it'll take up to 7, IIRC) that it won't let you do any more.

Unfortunately it only came with one aftermarket key and compustar remote. One shop said they tried a new key and it didn't work and gave me the old key back. Towed it to Jeep, started up. I should have just paid the tow truck to lift it and drop it. Lol

I just had it picked up and sent to a different dealership. I called three Jeep places one of them said right off the bat, sounds like anti theft ,so I picked them.
The car is in complete meltdown mode ,things flashing on the evic about brakes and 4 wd. I didn't really have a choice at this point unfortunately.
Im calling Chrysler customer care if it is all the anti theft crap, it's the same parts as the 07 recall. So wtf!

The alarm system never flashed it's lights or made the normal sounds. Even using the evic to program door locks and horns never worked from day one . I'll be getting anything after market removed if they can get it going and go back to factory.

The 05 I have did have a problem with the Wireless control, but didn't cause any stalling issues. I found out it was having an issue when I tried to buy a replacement key and it would not program any new key. Put the new part and no problem programing keys.

It seems like that part can cause a whole bunch of different issues to happen. Hopefully that's it, because im getting tired of it. The dealer still has it and hasn't looked yet. So it will prob start by now and we will be back it.
Im dreading her coming home.
