Re: Please... Your help is needed.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I really appreciate it.

So I just had a bitter sweet moment. As suggested by 555ctsv, I went out and shook the exhaust pipe. Well, I tried to, it was as solid as can be. I was however on the rear end of the vehicle.

Due to time and my attire I wasn't prepared to get under the vehicle on my break. I intend to do so when I get home later this evening.

I did a minor visual inspection of the wheel well. I found a rock. About twice the size of an eraser on a pencil. the rock wasn't wedged tightly in the frame, but it was there. (Now I drove the vehicle prior to finding this rock). I immediately thought this could have been the cause of the rattle type sound. Figured it bounces aroudn slightly in it's little nest.

I removed the rock and took her for a spin, got up to the 50-60mph range and I didn't hear anything. Kept going a little further, and hten I heard the noise again.

I knew that was too simlpe to be the fix, but I was hopefully optimistic.

Back to the drawing board.

P.S. 05quadratrac- I am going to check the manifold bolts, but my symptoms sound a little different than yours. I hope this means it is not the manifold bolts, but I still consider that as a possible cause.

Thanks

Re: Please... Your help is needed.

Well this is prob unrelated but the heat shields next to the brake discs can make some awful sounds. I had a small chunk of mud dry up in there and it scared me. I even took it to ntb and they couldnt find anything wrong even after pulling off the wheel. I crawled under and beat on the heat shield, the mud came out and prob solved

Re: Please... Your help is needed.

If it IS actually exhaust related you will hear the noise even more upon acceleration, not just on a cruise of 50mph plus. I think you're barking up the wronf tree there.

I would take a real close look at the front plastic inner guards, they're only push-clipped into place. If you lose a front clip as I have in the past, at speed you will get a sound like you're experiencing. The plastics are quite thick and when being beaten agaist the metal at 50mph plus you'd be suprised by the racket it can make.

I actually had a noise tonight like a rattleing front my front passenger side area, it almost sounded like I left a socket in the engine bay and it was rattleing around, I opened the hood, didnt see anything, shut the hood, drove some more and it seems to be gone. does yours sound like this?

Re: Please... Your help is needed.

05quadratrac- I would def. say it does, but a lighter version. When I first heard this noise, I thought it was leaves blowing around under the hood. It was very faint and sporadic.

???

If it's a socket I would be surprised as I would imagine the sound to be a louder thump.???

I checked underneath, but I didn't see anything. It was right at sunset. I am taking her to get the oil changed, and will take a better look when they lift her.

Thanks again for the input.

Re: Please... Your help is needed.

A brief update- I got my oil changed on Friday. I had an opportunity to do a visual inspection underneath my Jeep and I didn't see anything loose or hanging. All of the splash gaurds were secure and the exhaust sytem was solid as well.

I told one of the guys working there what I was experiencing. He looked around and didn't see anything abnormal either. It looks like I am going to have to have a mechanic ride with me to experience the noise and hopeully they will have some thoughts after that.

Thanks everyone for your help. I went on my trip (about 260 miles RT) without any issues.
